So, I still use a flip phone. I like my phone to be a phone…I use my laptop for all else. Today, I got so tired of searching thru dump carts, double wheel wheelbarrows, Rubbermaid carts, etc. I like my ONE wheel wheelbarrow…my barn is tiny and lots of tight turns. I like the 6 cu. ft. not the huge workhorse ones, I can’t fill them and push them too! So, I ordered 2 cheap a$$ poly shell ones from Ace Hardware. I paid for delivery and assembly. I know I should have upgraded, and gotten out of my comfort zone, but I like the smaller ones to be sure I don’t overload. My past have been quick pick ups from TSC but they only had steel and mine have rusted out. Oh, well! still happy with my Christmas present to me! What do you guys find that you just want what you’re used to and happy with?
I’ll still add in a larger cart soon. that will be another quest. had one of the big wheel ones out of wood that is flat on bottom…that one is long gone, and will have to replace it too. I don’t think I want the rubbermaid, as I would use it a lot for bales of hay and prefer the flat bottom.
I use the Rubbermaid cart for mucking and for moving hay, and am very happy with them–have three, in fact! One for mucking, one for hay, and one that’s extra–it gets the odd jobs from moving piles of stuff to and from the house to fluffing up the chicken bedding to an extra sh!t cart when it’s just too snowy to get the other one to the manure bin. No complaints, they work great, would hate to switch to something else!
Weatherbeeta blankets. I keep saying I am going to try other brands, but I don’t lol. I just keep ordering Weatherbeetas. They fit my boy ok, but not awesome. But the unknown is evidently undesirable to me when buying horse blankets. It’s kind of odd really.
With you on flip phones – I had 2 (work and personal), one died so I switched to an iPhone SE which could do both numbers on one phone. Ended up ditching the work number and moved everyone to my personal number because it just was too confusing. And I don’t love it. I’m with you on a 1-wheel wheelbarrow too. The 2 wheels are too heavy and cumbersome for me. One other thing I won’t switch from is a broom! My boyfriend likes to blow off my porches at the house with a gas blower and is dying to do the barn, but…NO. Too loud, too smelly and just…not…right
I love my twin tub washing machine with the washing wheel on the bottom of the machine. It saves so much water. It cleans so much better.
I have tried to maintain what I call an analog lifestyle but it is becoming more difficult. I do make changes from time to time. The first notable change was about 1975 when I went from a nice B&W Zenith television for a color Sony. It was wicked expensive and I added cable when that debuted. Now I have switched to flat screen. When mom passed away in 2018 I got her 32" 8-year-old Sony and got a few more years out of it. I don’t like fancy high-resolution, I get the el cheapos.
I too have a flip phone, a Tracfone with prepaid minutes. I got in 1998. I got a new one last year, Doro 7050. It has an emergency button on the back to call someone for help and a screen to list meds and medical conditions. Turns out it is designed for seniors, which I am, but I liked for riding. I mostly text and do a little calling and some photos. I figured out how to copy them to my PC. Best of all I don’t go online or do email. Life is much better. I’m not hunched over all day.
The worst thing happened a couple of years ago. I had to give up my perfectly functional Maytag washer, circa 1961, and nonmatching dryer. Friends gave them to me for nothing in 1984 for my new condo. The dryer was squealing and the washer needed the cold water fixed. The repair guy ordered the dryer motor. When he came back he opened it up and called me in. He had cut the plug off and said something was broken and it was filled to the brim with years of lint. He was surprised I didn’t burn my house down. I never leave the dryer running when I leave the house. Dad was a volunteer firefighter in our small town when I was growing up. He fought a lot of dryer fires and made me promise I would never leave it running if I wasn’t home. I still do that. I promised.
It’s giving up the washer that killed me. Maytag doesn’t make the timer anymore. Very shortsighted. Just because it was 60 years old. When the new ones arrived the guys grunted when they picked up the washer and hauled up the stairs. It was all metal and the steel outside was 10 times as thick. They figured it was about 3 times as heavy. Worst of all, the new one has a computer but it has the regular agitator. I hate it. I want my Maytag!!! The repair guy didn’t charge anything for the entire project. He said it took too long for the dryer motor to come in. He hated having to pronounce the washer dead. Small local appliance repair service. Shop local.
I sure hope I’m not coming off like an old biddy…well, wait. we never think WE are old. hahaha…but I am I guess, like it or not. SO unique that beside the flip phone, others have an affinity for their ‘old’ washing machines. ME TOOOO. I want a top loader, full water, largest capacity, old fashioned agitator, etc. man, I’ve NEVER taken a horse blanket to the laundromat! I’m afraid mine are on their last leg and I will be pulled kicking and screaming into ‘new efficient’ washers. YUK. I wish technology didn’t mean ‘you must’ I wish it meant ‘hey, you have a choice, and your’s is ok too’ but it doesn’t. when it all changes, you ‘have’ to. that’s the part I hate.
I am with you on the one wheel wheel barrow. I love the one I have right now. I bought it at Walmart of all places, but Walmart does not stock this model in stores usually. It was part of a fall display and was hanging from the ceiling filled with gourds. There are two small holes drilled in the heavy duty plastic from where they ran the cables to hang it. When they were finished, they sold it for $40 on the clearance rack.
The brand is Ames.
