NOVA barns, have specific needs (cross posted from HJ)

Hi all,

Cross posted from hunter jumper! I’ll start with some background and then list what I’m looking for…

Background: horse (15 yo TB gelding) is rehabbing a severe suspensory tear (occurred late last year). He also had a joint infection occur at the same time as the injury (I think I posted a few times about this in horse care) so has some joint damage, and we don’t expect him to return to his previous discipline, which was eventing. However, I’m hopeful that he can eventually do little stuff and trail ride. I have been working with vets at Morven in Leesburg and would like to continue working with them until he’s completely rehabbed. Until this point, he has been living at a layup facility, which has provided excellent care but doesn’t really have any places to ride. He’s now trotting under saddle and we need to find a new place for him to continue his rehab, and hopefully it can be a long term barn for us. However, I am a mom and work full time and live an hour away from that area, so it’s also really difficult to get out to the barn regularly to do his rehab rides, which brings me to my list of needs:

  1. Preferably in the Waterford or Leesburg area, or something directly off the toll road and not too far from Morven.

  2. Can provide private turnout and individualized care for a slightly higher needs horse (can’t go out in bad weather, needs a hay net, might need his legs wrapped occasionally). He is up to 6-8 hours a day on turnout but it needs to be private and a smallish paddock.

  3. Has a trainer or working student on site who can provide conditioning/rehab rides 3 days a week.

  4. Doesn’t have a showing requirement

  5. Nice to haves: an indoor and access to trails - I REALLY love hacking out and I think there will be a lot of this in our future.

Please let me know what ideas you have!

Consider Broad Shadow Farms https://www.broadshadowfarms.com/ in Leesburg. They are minutes from Morven. Wonderful people.
