Nova Scotia Snowfall

My sister lives on Cape Breton and has sent me photos. Feet and feet of heavy, wet snow. One photo of a farm and barn with drifts over the roof!!

Anyone here from Nova Scotia? Are you okay?

I’m always paranoid about snow covering up gas vents. That much snow would have me checking them obssessively!

Holy cow! My DH’s folks are in Truro, NS. I need to see if they got anything like that!

I visited Cape Breton last summer with DH and it was stunning. Not sure I could manage it in winter though.

Paging @CanadianTrotter, you out there?

Send up a flare please, okay?

My flare gun is buried under the snow! I’ve been posting over in the “Bad, bad weather” thread. Almost all of Nova Scotia got hit hard with very wet and heavy snow. There will most likely be a lot of roof damage for many buildings and houses.

As of 12 midnight, last night, we had 50cm. Another 30+cm was expected today and even more tomorrow morning. Sydney and Cape Breton are expecting between 100-150cm by tomorrow morning and have declared a state of emergency.

They think we have had even more snow than what was recorded at our airport because of strong winds moving the snow around.

I’ve gone out and cleared a path to the bird feeders to knock all the snow off and refill three times so far. I even felt bad for the pigeons and fed them some cat food, I’ll probably regret that later when they keep coming back after the snow is done.

We had 38.6cm yesterday, so our grand total is 88.6cm. Everything is covered and it’s going to take awhile to dig everything out. It’s going to be above 0c all week and 6c on Saturday, Nova Scotia is going to be a giant slushie!

The weather network changed its mind and it’ll only be 0c on Saturday now.

That’s the thing regarding my sister’s place; she’s right on the ocean and usually they get ice, or at the most, a few inches. She got 3’ in about 36 hours! She just posted a FB photo of a neighbor with an excavator clearing her driveway.

Wow! I hope everyone is digging out okay. It sounds like this was a surprise, so people will need to get more supplies soon.

Am I thinking of the right place? Are there wild ponies there? With that much snow, wildlife and livestock in pastures are going to have a terrible time.
