YEAH!!! A BABY!!! This is going to be so much fun!!!
Exactly! This is great Anna!!!
can we have a baby shower?
Boy there will be tons of things to get, I cannot wait! So it will be a June foal right? OH BOY or GIRL!
Yeah! I knew it!!! Congratulations!!!

So it will be a June foal right?[/QUOTE]
Shella had met stallion on 22nd and 24th June… So foal might be here on May 28 or something… I would call it May foal… Or you call them not by the month of birth? But if she is late, then it may be beginning of June…
Ouch, now I have 11 months to learn that all by books, and then the practice will start!
Peter is already concerned now how to ride her - how much excercises would be good for her and baby, how much would be too much… Feeding, care… So many things to learn!
So exciting! We will need all of you keep us in your mind so all will go nicely…
With all these foal things we can not leave Puika out. Here he is with my mum today (nothing exciting, just in pastures) but I think that he looks much better now when most of excess weight has been lost

And, of course, we must to think about names for foal now!
If it will be filly, it will be definitely named after my niece - yesterday was her birthday, and as we get approval about Shella being in foal, that’s it - filly will be named Sonora II.
Here she is, Sonora with her pink pony Suzy (who will help her through the winter to wait for real foal to be born) yesterday, on her 6th birthday

But if it will be a boy? Stallion’s name is Sulainis, so it must be S name - so far my hay brain has come up with Sumo!
We have no idea, so any suggestions with S names are very welcome!
Anna, I have not posted yet on this thread, but have been following it along. I really enjoy reading about your life in Latvia. Congratulations on Shella’s foal! I have really enjoyed your pictures and look forward to many more from our new friend in Latvia!!
Congratulations! And Puika looks amazing, he definitley looks better now without all of that extra weight!
WOW! Puika looks fantastic!
Puika looks so good!! You can really tell the difference between now and when you first got him! Keep up the good work!
As for names- if you end up with a little colt and still want to keep the ‘theme’ of naming it after your niece, how about changing the name around a little bit to Sonoro? Or Sonor? I don’t know if you’d like either of those, but I thought that possibly you could still name the baby after your niece even if it it a little colt by changing the name just a tiny bit.
Latest news from our end of the woods… We had a long trip today, looked at few and agreed on one mare. She needs rescue ASAP and we feel that with our vet we shall be able to lead her to the sound recovery. So in few days we shall add the second mare to our pack - Puika will be in heaven, I only hope that Shella will not mind.
Mare is Hannoverian, 7 yo, good pedigree, 17.3 h, already has had 3 good quality foals without any problems.
She has one long term problem and 2 more that we hope to sort out soon.
Long term - she had back leg injury - skin cut 3 years ago, it has healed well, but the scar left looks quite ugly, so she went out of market as a sports horse then.
She was happy used as a broadmare, but this summer she got two more problems - she is very skinny now (teeth are ok, our vet suspects that she just need a deworming, but might be something else, of course)
and the reason why we agreed to take her in ASAP - she was ridden by not very wise person and got saddle rub on withers. As few past weeks were really hot, the rub inflamed, and now there is nasty weeping open wound, a size of a palm, and all around is inflamed as well - looks like she has second withers.
Her current owner has 2 mo old baby and 20 horses, so this mare is a bit neglected in all meanings (I’m being polite here).
Mare is ridable (in theory, we were not able to try her out due to the wound, of course) and quite sweet. She was not as sweet as I would like, but I’m sure that it is because of the wound - even for my unexperienced eye she is in serious pain and flies are bothering her as well. I kissed and cuddled her, gave her treats by hand and walked her a bit - she is ok.
Peter tried his tricks out and convinced me that with a bit of love and care she soon will be as sweet as Shella is. Before she will arrive (probably on Saturday or Sunday, next two days are promised to be hot again, not suitable for transporting her 4 hours), vet will be here to meet and greet with some painkillers, will check out the wound and then the proper treatment plan will be made.
She will need deworming and special diet as well to put meat back on her bones, but vet is very positive.
Keep fingers crossed for our new girl!
I took some poor pictures of her today, but my mind was not into photography, I was concentrating on asking owner questions and trying to communicate with mare to work out do I feel right about her or not.
And in the box I had not used flash (did not wanted to scare her), so it made pictures even worse.
Here she is

She (in halter) and her foal (at least you can see that they are not hand shy)

Old injury on her back leg:

(she just moved so looks like 2 leggs there - my fault)
Scar is on the white sock - it is not affecting her gaits. Seems like it really was just a skin injury - owner told that she was jumping after that without problems.

You are gaining quite the herd, good for you, I’m sure she’ll warm up after she’s well cared for.
Wow Anna congrats on the new mare. She really needs you.
I think that you are going to have to open a Bed and Breakfast so that all us COTHers can come and visit you!!

I thought you were going to say, “Here is is with my mum today (nothing exciting, just in…the bedroom, the bathtub or the kitchen!)” I laughed outloud because I was SURE you’d have another “house horse” pic to show us with grandma!
Mr. Allpurpose loves this thread, but told me not to get any ideas about any horses in the house. He told me it must be a very old Latvian custom…
I wish you and Peter good luck with your 4 legged family
I did read whole this post through at few days… and I have to say Im Impressed about you 2.
Future looks really good for all of you and I loved pictures about Shella indoors… got me very big smile when I saw it.
Love this story and want to be updated about continuing story of corse
you must have similar winters as Finland is having?
Im born at Kotka, at costline towards Karelen but now living here in sweden about same height but I have to say winters arent same thou here as it was at Kotka.

What do you think? By my opinion, she is worth to take care of and not been letting down.
Diamantcats, we are a bit more South, so winters are milder than in Finland, by plant mapping we are in zone 5-6 here.
Hi Anna.
I just read this whole thread. What an amazing journey you’ve been on. Puika and Shella look beautiful. And your new mare is lovely. I’m sure after a few months of country life and all that love that you and Peter will give, she will look like a million dollars. What is her name?
thank you so much anna for using your gift of lovin’ and understanding horses to give another horse a great life in your care!!! the world is so much better with you and peter in it!
big hugs from me to ya all
