Novice needs advices on naughty horse (We have a baby!)

Okay…where are our updated pictures?

OK, I’m overtired to concentrate on pictures but at least good news - Giva is out of the woods. Few more days on no grass diet with short walks outside but in general major danger is sorted out. So that’s good

And now pictures:

Sunny Jim, 2 weeks old

http://i965.photobucket.com/albums/ae135/lillydelully/11-06-10foals/PICT3322.jpg

Jim is very perky boy, very curious, fearless and fast. Back is maybe a bit too short, but in general - not bad at all. What I hoped for.

Chelsea, one week old:

In theory Chelsea is better breeding but so far it is still hard to say how she will look. Too leggy and weak, not so brave as Jim as well - a girl

And Sonora - our first foal, who just celebrated her 1st birthday:

http://i965.photobucket.com/albums/ae135/lillydelully/11-06-10foals/PICT3335.jpg

Sweet, perky, curious and fearless. Knows all the basic things that a yearling must to know and loves human attention.

PS Needs A Nap, the ear net actually helped to win, believe or not - matching colors or not, but it reduced speaker affect on Gamma - we needed that after “Dressage” on the second show.

Swaping mums

We do have 3 mares with 2 foals now in one paddock. One mare has 2 week old baby, other one - a week old baby. The third mare is just there for a company (she has dissapointed us and is not in foal).

Mare with the youngest baby was since birth due to complications mostly in or in separate paddock. Today vet allowed put her out back in grass.

We put her in with other 2 mares and baby - all went nice, babies get together very quickly, as mares were standing together before birth there were no problems. Later on today we suddenly spotted that babies are swapping mums - Jimmy goes and eats from Chelsea’s mum and opposite. Then they both together go to Shella (non pregnant one) to check her out is there any milk offers, then go back, and after a while again swap mums. Is it normal? (Both mums say nothing like it is absolutely normal). I’m a bit confused about this - is there any reason to worry about babies tummies?

I know where I worked last summer the foals “swapped mums” all the time, and all seemed to be healthy/happy. I don’t have any experience with raising foals apart from that so would be interesting to hear others views.

Totally normal for the foals to swap mums. We had one older mare who would drop her foal off with our young mare in the morning (young mare would nurse hers AND older mare’s foal), and pick the foal back up on the way into the barn at night - like day care lol!

Beautifil foals! That Sunny Jim is special - you can just see it!

Shella looks so happy, what a wonderful picture. And wow, Sonora looks fabo, look at that bone!! Drooling!

Yesterday was a dental day here. Daggy was desperate on his teeth to be done again and I also did not liked how GE-GE is looking. Yes, both needed floating and Ge-Ge also had several wolf teeth to be removed. We already knew that Daggy HATES dental work (it is really his only fault) and Ge-Ge also hates dentists  Both needed quite strong cocktails for the power float, but at least Daggy was doing much better than the previous time.

And then we wanted to look into other mouths… few others were fine with mild cocktails, including Guddy (also wolf teeth removed), but our brave Gamma decided that she does not need anything to calm her down as far as daddy is holding her head.

I was really really impressed about how calm and patient she was standing without anything just Peter holding her head for the power float job.

Just wanted to share some pictures.

VERY nice Anna,
I think Esther is not quite sure what to make of a her age buddy however. :D.

Your horses are so kind & gentle.

I’ve not posted much on the thread lately, but I keep following your stories, you guys are doing awesome and you horses looks all very content and happy :).

Thanks for sharing the first meeting photos. Has Martin gotten addicted to horses yet?

I have a feeling that he was really happy and somehow might get attached. At least he wants to return and meet them again and again.

So, we had accomplished what we were planning for a long time - Guddy this weekend went to his first show and I feel that it is about the right time to say great thank you to you all and let this thread to die.

http://i965.photobucket.com/albums/ae135/lillydelully/03-07-10usma/P7031044.jpg

This is a very happy ending for this story about two complete novices starting… Now I feel that we can nearly qualify as beginners - few shows under the belt, few foals born (and growing) and our biggest problem (in all meanings biggest) had accomplished the first step from being unrideable dog food…

…to this

Guddy has so much fun! I really hope that he is one very happy horse - he deserves that, right?http://www.youtube.com/user/barryz15#p/a/u/1/-iZBlTkkChM

So again - THANK TO YOU ALL and good bye - I will meet you all again very soon in new threads but for this one it is time to stop.

Oh, no, Anna, but, understandably, you are now an established, busy horseperson. Thank you for sharing the adventure. Best wishes to you, your family and all your creatures, great and small.

A new further adventures thread?

Anna,

I’m sorry that this first adventure book thread ends. I have enjoyed your stories so much!

I hope that you start your new thread soon. The withdraw from your stories will be hard for us. You have grown so much since the beginning. The title of the first thread didn’t fit you any more. I hope that the saga continues in the next volume of the thread.

Hugs to you and Peter, and all the horses,

Robin

nnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooo :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

hum, NO!

You can just change the title of the thread, but if you just leave us now, it feels like you were picking our brains and now, you learned enough and you leave??? I thought we were all friends and you just can’t leave friends like that!!!

We have come to love your horses and you can’t just take them away…

No-o, I’m not leaving, not at all… Just some members started to complain that THIS thread is way too long and getting on their nerves

I needed to keep it going otherwise somebody who would see my latest posts would think “what an idiot”. I hoped that if I will keep waving the “Warning, I AM an idiot!” for long enough, people will take my silliness easier which they did.

Now I feel that at least I had learned the difference between halter and bridle, and I also know how does the hoof pick looks like, and how many buckets per day horse might enjoy… Thus not SO silly so I feel brave enough to move from complete novice to, let’s say, beginner level. I feel that my knowledge level had reached about the lowest level of horse-crazy 6 yo

Actually at present I’m preparing pictures from the weekend - we all had a great time at a show. I think that it might be interesting for you to see how small, homemade show looks at this end of the world. It will be a separate thread here.

So, NO, I’m not leaving at all, and seems that I will be here forever… So much to learn, and COTH is the best place, at least for me

Well let some members think what they want to think, IMO. They don’t have to pay attention to it if they don’t want to. I for one have really enjoyed following this thread. I can see stopping it if it turned into a train wreck, like who knows how many others, but one of the best things about this thread is it hasn’t! You really should keep this up. You could become the 2nd COTH author!

Annacrew-
I have enjoyed watching you guys grow into wonderful horse people You could teach others a lesson in compassion that is for sure and love does conquer all…
I, too, wish it would not end…If you must start a new thread like Chapter 2 Guddy goes to a show that is fine too but we cannot forget about Puika! He is the whole reason weare here!
You have managed to do things only others dream of…
Please find a way to keep in touch with all of us. If someone has a problem they do not need to read the thread…That is their choice…
Maybe one of these days I will come to Latvia and you could show us around!
