Due to the state of things , I could not find a bag of Triple Crown Senior at my local feed store and instead bought a bag of Purina Equine Senior to tide me over until they could get another shipment in. My gelding has PPID so I am conscious of sugars/starches . I tried looking for a NSC value for the PES but could not find a source that was recent. I have enough to slowly transition him over from TC. Thanks in advance!
They have the info (kinda) here:

That graphic at the bottom of the page puts Purina Senior at about 18%. Senior Active is about 15% and Wellsolve L/S is about 11%.
Thank you, Simkie! I’m going to bookmark that page. Darn, 18% is a bit high. I’m going to grab a couple bags of TC Senior the next time I’m in the feedstore to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
Yeah, unfortunately the Purina Senior is of an era before we really looked at NSC. Check out Strategy!
If it’s an option at your feed store, the Adult or Senior Active are both about 15% and might be a better choice (while still being “normal” enough that your basic store will stock.) Obviously the Wellsolve is the best option, but may be harder to find.
”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹Good luck!
Hygain Zero is the lowest.
We use Buckeye Gro N Win. I think it’s at 13% and we don’t feed much of it. If you are feeding Equine Senior because your horses can’t eat hay, it won’t help you, unfortunately, as it is considered a ration balancer.
Where do you find this? Can’t say I’ve ever seen it stocked. If the OP can’t get TC Senior due to supply issues, it’s doubtful she’ll be able to get something that is such a specialty feed.
Hygain is new to the US and not widely available at all. 6% ESC+starch is nice though!
If it’s helpful to you, Standlee Alfalfa pellets are 9%, and the Alfalfa/Timothy pellets are 10%. I just called…seems alfalfa pellets in my area are going the way of TP. I’ll sure be glad when things gets better. :sigh:
Purina also has their Impact Professional Senior

No, but if you combine it with beet pulp, and some more flax (Gro n Win does have flax in it IIRC) you’d have something pretty safe and useful.
I think that Purina Senior is garbage. That said, I have used it to put weight on skinny older horses that I felt had no real danger of being on the Metabolic spectrum. You can feed a bunch of it, and get some weight on a horse who is challenged.
I looked at the Purina Impact…NSC is still at 18%. ASB Stars, great idea the beet pulp w Gro N Win.
Buckeye isn’t available to me locally, but I can order it on Chewy. My most recent Chewy delivery took about a week to get here due to their demand. At least it is an option now!
All they had left at the feed store was sweet feed, TC Complete, and a couple different brands of RB (and of course the Equine Senior). He is already on a vitamin/mineral supplement so I figured the RB would be overkill. I will be checking back frequently with this feedstore so I can get him back on TC Senior asap.
I was shocked that TFS was completely sold out of alfalfa pellets. I called 4 within driving distance and no one had any.
