Nutrena ProForce Line Opinions?

I’m currently wanting to switch Scarlet’s feed.

She currently gets a mix of Nutrena Empower Boost and Nutrena Safechoice Perform. About 5.5lbs a day give or take a little bit, as well as 1/2 a cup (4oz) of flax seed and I’m not quite happy with where she is at.

I’ve been eyeballing the pro-force line and I’m debating on Pro-force fuel and Pro-force fiber. A concern for me is the total NSC value, but both of these fall in line, and ideally I will move her off of the boost which only adds onto it.

Any experience with any of these feeds? What is the difference between pelletet and textured feeds in general? I always assumed textured were sweet feeds, but is this not the case here?

And to go ahead and answer the hay question. She gets free choice coastal bermuda (round bale) when turned out and free choice bahia when she is inside. When she eats them she gobbles them right up, when she is distracted not so much.

We can’t get the fiber up here, so this will just be about the fuel and senior. I switched my gelding to pro force fuel about a year and a half ago. He was always thin, struggled with ulcers and had a poor coat. He put on weight pretty quickly on the pro force fuel, and his coat came in so nice and shiny. My barn owner slowly switched the whole barn over to the pro force line, she was so impressed. Every horse on the property gets the fuel or the senior, or a mix of both. I will say, we affectionately call the Pro force fuel “rocket fuel” as it can give some horses a bit more disposable energy than you may be used to or like  For the horses who get too high on it, we have found mixing the Fuel and the Senior 50/50 tends to give us the results we like.

I had my boy on Fuel for about 6 months. He gained weight very nicely with it, but it did make him a bit hotter than I liked. I ended up switching over to Seminole Dynasport which is beet pulp based like the ProForce Fiber but lower NSC. He does very well on just 4 pounds of it daily along with free choice O&A and beet pulp (only because it makes me feel better, I’m not sure that he really needs the extra beet pulp or really benefits from it in any way).

I’m a bit limited on what I can get, which are pretty much Purina and Dumor which I won’t buy, and Nutrena. Supposedly some places sell triple crown but everywhere I called say they don’t.

I tried proforce fuel And proforce fiber my horses ate it for about 2 weeks then they wouldn’t touch it. If your horse doesn’t like beet pulp it might be an issue.

I don’t know how she is with beet pulp. She does love food though, very food motivated.

A quick question, what did the fiber look like? Is it kind of dry or is it sticky?

Quick google turns up this pic of the fuel: http://i58.tinypic.com/dnefjr.jpg

And this one ( ) of the fiber: https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/s640x640/sh0.08/e35/16123634_407459079590874_5933722332760637440_n.jpg?ig_cache_key=MTQzMDg5Mjc1Njc5NjgyNTMyNQ%3D%3D.2

I just found the cat one maybe an hour ago. Lol

Nutrena Pro Force Senior feeder here!

I have fed my 21 year old OTTB for appx 3 years now. I fed my 16 year old OTTB the Pro force fiber for appx 6 months, but changed feeds when I switched boarding barns for him. BOTH feeds are very dark, rich, moist, and “Sweet” smelling. Crumbles in your hands and leaves a bit of a sticky residue. Both of my LOVED each feed. I do especially like that it is beet pulp based as I am not able to have beet pulp soaked/fed at current barn.

21 OTTB has thrived on it (although this winter has been rough, major drought going in meant a lot less forage readily available and we’ve been struggling to maintain weight. I do not attribute this to feed.) since I put him on it. He has never shown any metabolic issues however, so I have not had extreme worry about the NSC content although I do agree it is not ideal.

Oh guys. I just discovered my feed supplier does sell Triple Crown and the TC Senior’s NSC levels are super sexy.:love-struck:

You might be a horse person if ^^

General consensus does say TC is the bomb diggity. Never heard a negative thing about it tbh…

Oh I am excited. I’ve been wanting to use TC for ever because I’ve always heard great things about it. I even remember calling my current supplier years ago and they said they didn’t sell it. I even have pictures of their feed price board and it doesn’t any triple crown there either but on a whim I checked the dealer locater again, my supplier was listed so I figured it didn’t hurt to call and ask again. It has been a few years after all

I also think its funny I am looking so much into feeds and what it has, but I’ll eat whatever myself.

#1 complaint about TC Senior or Complete–MAN does it suck to chisel it out of the can in winter. It just sets up like a brick in the cold.

Curiously, I did hear from a feed store manager that the quality had gone waaaay downhill with the current producer (Blue Seal, maybe? Don’t recall.) Has anyone else heard that feedback or seen that in the feed?

I was a TC senior feeder for YEARS!!! And I always felt like with a hard working horse I had to feed 10+ lbs of feed to maintain weight. (ASB, lg grade hony, and OTTB). I was frustrated with the amount of feed and had heard good reviews of the ProForce Fuel feed. I was able to maintain weight on my OTTB during his heaviest work load on 8lbs a day of Fuel, but his coat and hooves were in terrible shape. I switched to Seminole Dynasport. I have been able to keep my OTTB in hard work, slightly gaining, weight on 5 lbs of feed a day and his coat and hooves are in the best shape ever.

As as far as crazy energy…my horses are only in for 6 hours during the day and ridden during that time period, so they are moving (exercised or at will) a lot during a 24 hr period. If you keep your horse up 18 hours a day…they may have more spunk than you want.

I have been feeding Proforce Fuel for about 3 years now to a horse that has at times been a hard keeper and had ulcer issues. I’ve been happy with the Fuel and she has never been hot on it. She is a horse that can get hot and did so on blue seal sentinel. I have fed her anywhere from 2-4 quarts per day of the Fuel depending on her level of work and the quality of hay (she eats a lot of hay per day, approximately 25 lbs of Timothy and orchard grass mix, sometimes as much as 30-35 lbs). Before Fuel I fed TC senior and liked that as well, but the Fuel is 1) cheaper and 2) I don’t have to feed her as much of it.
