we’re trying to find one to do in the upstate NY/VT area, sometime in the next couple of months (oct/nov). can anyone recommend one that’s beginner friendly? some of my adult ammies want to give one a try for the first time! thanks
Guilford Hounds is hosting a hunter pace on Sept 11th in Brattleboro, VT.
The Green Mt Hounds are holding a hunter pace on Saturday Oct 2nd in Shoreham, Vt.
Our website has more info www.greenmountainhounds.com
I think Beckenrah Farm in Ancramdale has one in mid-October. Landsmankill Trail Assoc, south of Rhinebeck, is usually the last Sunday in Oct. Locust Hill in Pleasant Valley (Hyde Park area) is the first Sunday in November.
Old Chatham Hunt is not having a hunter pace in September this year. Instead, they are doing a joint trail ride/hike to benefit the Columbia Land Conservancy. Is definitely “beginner-friendly” and close by, but not a true hunter pace.

The views on the Old Chatham trail ride will be spectacular and I definitely recommend going! There will be different levels for all types of riders. Should be a good day!

That one should be beautiful, and on the easy side.
Bekenrah is spectacular, and you can take it slow and skip the jumps if you want - just schedule your time towards the end, so all the fast people are done. It’s very hilly, but the footing is mostly grass tracks.
I am really fond of the Millbrook Hunter Paces. The Millbrook Pony Club one is on October 10th. Then there is the Locust Hill HP on November 7th. Usually very nice footing. And all Hunter Paces are newby-friendly. Just go the pace you are most comfortable and have fun!
There is one Oct. 9th in DeRuyter, NY. Very beginner friendly, jumps from itty bitty 12-18" to 3’ with bales, coops, logs, and stone walls. Lots of hills, but just beautiful.
I second Trinity Hill - DeRuyter Pace is lots of fun! 5 or ten miles, lots of jumps - the jumps are very inviting too. Good crowd shows up and it is very well run.
DeRuyter is great fun, and the lines of stone walls are a blast!
Be warned, it is a bit of a haul from Albany/Saratoga, maybe 2.5 - 3 hours.
Go pace, go have fun!
