Hi - I am an adult amateur looking for winter board and training for 2 FEI horses - I live in NYC and am open to barns in NJ and NY. I’m lucky to be in a situation where I can pay for high quality care and training, and that is very important to me, but I do not want to send the horses to Florida with a trainer for the winter. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks so much!
I’ll pm you in the morning. Mine stay north as well, and I know of a few options (and only a few)
How long of a commute could you do?
How many days a week can you ride?
What kind of goals do you have?
Courtney King Dye is teaching twice a week at Bel Air in Millbrook. That’s what I’m doing this winter ( I have my own small farm 20’ from millbrook and trailer in). Bel Air is amazing.
Jonna admasson at field point farm (can look up on facebook) . Her facility is lovely. Only 14 stalls super care. Really great indoor and quiet. This is about 10’ from my farm and I trailer over about once a week so I know the farm well. (My indoor is small Jonna is a really good friend and lets me use her ring)
Debra Weidmaier DW dressage ( also on facebook)
Michelle Dinneen shintodressage.com I don’t know what the new facility is like. They are in Brewster.
I have a lesson with Lendon today - she comes to Bel Air once a week, but is leaving for Florida - I’ll ask her as well.
Feel free to PM me
I will echo Jonna Adamsson, whole heartedly and with a million thumbs up!! Field Pointe Farm is the place to be! It is an amazingly beautiful barn with the best of everything and the best care you could ever ask for. Jonna is an incredible trainer with a heart of gold. You could not find a better place to be.
You can find Field Pointe Farm and Jonna Adamsson both on Facebook, or message me if you are interested in her contact info!
Send me a PM and I can tell you about facilities in NJ if you don’t find what you are looking for in NY.
Best Care and Training in the Area
I strongly second TaraB’s recommendation of Jonna Adamsson and Field Pointe Farm. Jonna’s pure classical background is not easy to find in the US. She has trained with major coaches in Sweden and has vast experience training at all levels, from young horses to FEI and in-hand work. She also has enormous experience with rehabilitation and care of older horses, and almost a “sixth sense” about the condition of her charges. The farm backup team is first rate - a highly experienced equine physiotherapist works with Jonna when needed, the farrier is fantastic, and Rhinebeck Equine is the veterinarian team. The facility is impeccable and perfectly maintained. Jonna’s strong connections with riders in her native Sweden have made for wonderful buying opportunities for riders. I cannot emphasize her honesty and integrity enough - and i have had the pleasure of having my horses safe and sound with her, and my riding improved, for close to ten years! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to speak about this. best.
I would recommend Field Pointe Farm in NY. It is close to NYC for convenience and has an impeccable facility and staff. Jonna Adamsson has classical training yet approaches each student and horse individually and sensitively. There are trails for conditioning horses if you want, plus footing in both indoor ring and outdoor dressage arena are perfect. Barn is open 7 days and lessons/rides are easily scheduled after work hours. Great if one is commuting from NYC!
These may all be great places - but it will depend on how far you want to drive. For me, almost all of these would be much too far.
David Collins is staying at Centerline Stables for the winter, in Ossining. Lisa-Claire Segal is staying at Sunnyfield Farm in Bedford, I think. Kat Mathieu Schwarz is staying in Brewster (Black Diamond Equine). Michelle Dineen, Trish Helmer, and Courtney Bolender moved in to the old Tanrakin in Bedford, and they are all staying north to my knowledge.
Feel free to pm me if you want more details.
Hi, sorry to bring up an old post but I’m currently searching for NYC area board and training for the winter (and possibly longer) and was wondering if anyone had any other thoughts (or if it’s different this year!). Thanks a bunch!
Pm me. I have plenty of suggestions on who to check out and who to avoid
@swedishwarmbloodlover Feel free to pm me as well. What I posted above from last year is largely still correct, although I there are some more people staying in the North Salem area this year.
Hi @SnicklefritzG, could you also PM me the list. I’m new on the forum and not able to send a PM. Thanks!
