I have a great niece who is 6 y.o. with Downs syndrome. She has tested low normal on the intelligence scale. She loves horses and while visiting me this weekend and holiday, I let her ride, with 2 of us leading my horses, and two on each side of her, and she loved it and didn’t want to get off. Since she lives in NY city, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good hippotherapy program or therapeutic riding program that they could recommend in the NYC area?

The New York City Therapeutic Riding Center’s Equestria Program operates out of Chateau Stables on 48th St. in Manhattan on Saturdays only.
There is also one on Staten Island. Don’t recall the name offhand but a friend volunteers there.

There’s also Flying Manes Therapeutic Riding, located at Riverdale Equestrian Centre in the Bronx.
GallopNYC also has a location in Jamaica, Queens.
If they are willing to drive about an hour outside of the city, there’s a great place called Mane Stream (http://www.shhrc.org/) just a few minutes from where I ride in Oldwick, NJ.
My boyfriend’s nephew is almost 2 and also has Down syndrome. I’d love to see him start doing therapeutic riding in the future. It can work wonders! 
This place is probrably 45 minutes to an hour from the city. I used to volunteer there and they run a great program. I believe they recently added an indoor too!
