NYRA privatization is interesting dilemma. . .

for Cuomo.

NY extends control another year. A deal in NY is not a deal.

States like VA, NH, MA that have lost racing and states like PA, WV, IN, IL, etc. facing problems, should take something positive away from this. It shows that horse racing can survive in the face of stupid leadership and there is still hope that their racing can be revived despite the stupid leaders involved. Not much of a chance, but a little. What’s the saying? The best place to build a race track is dreamland.

Cuomo is not supportive of racing, correct?

(I know, I’m fairly clueless. Apologies.)

Thank you for posting these important issues, btw.

Cuomo appears to be no different than other racing state governors. Some are more heavy handed than others. Maybe a NY native can offer up the realities of what’s going on. If I recall correctly from history study it was actually the NYRA that was the predecessor of Jockey Club.

PA is opening the door to more horsemen participation in its state regulatory board. It is going to be interesting to see what evolves.

Maybe my use of the term heavy handed was too polite. I have always thought that NY state and city government leadership verged on the dictatorial. Bloomberg with his not in my city 16 oz soda thinking is the norm.

And if the money grabbing Cuomo can’t fix NY, the legislature blames NJ voters and expands casinos on the border.

It is getting to the point that the rich and famous won’t have any place to entertain. CA is on fire with no water and NY Is going broke and running national ads offering tax free business relocation. I’d invite them to VA but the only thing we have to offer is traffic backups on the capital beltway and picnic basket seating at empty race courses. No money grabbing here in VA. No money at all.

Looks like Finger Lakes is in jeopardy also. This would be a blow to NY racing.
