NYT Article on Trans riders

Ouch the internalized misogyny here. Tell Laura Kraut, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, Isabell Werth, Beezie Maden etc etc that they are playing second fiddle to men when they beat them in them in the Olympics. hahaha

It’s a false equivalence. A sad one.

@red_mares. I apologize if I’m not recalling correctly. Threads on this forum move quickly. Were you the poster who felt that calling your relative “retarded” was appropriate and there was no problem with that word ?
If indeed I am recalling correctly. Perhaps realize your own beliefs or world view may not reflect the current times.

Those men don’t think they’re women and try to invade women’s sports.

The point was red_mares seems to be concerned that she is playing second fiddle to men. That if she was up against a man in her driving class, she would stand no chance of winning. That a man would win in a driving class against a woman. Simply not true. I feel sad for her that she has so little faith in her own abilities.

That is what I like about eventing, jumping and dressage - men and women compete against each other and are not segregated by sex. This applies to other disciplines too. Brute strength is not a factor and you can load up on testosterone and it won’t help you one iota. Nobody is following you into a bathroom stall to check out what is in your pants. And nobody cares. I would say that eventing is a pretty physical sport but look at Ros Canter - she must weigh 95 pounds soaking wet and she does pretty well on her huge horses.

Now I know some sports, by their very nature, offer an advantage to the male body. But I just can’t see the outrage because maybe, maybe, if you have a daughter, that daughter might have a disadvantage in high school athletics. But unless you are counting on her performance leading to a scholarship - Who Cares! High school athletics in the grand scheme of things is just not that important. And things are never equal. One person has more money to afford better training, one person comes from an athletic family and has better genes. This is a great life lesson because life is never fair. So if you are competing in a lady’s driving class and a chromosomally male beats you - maybe you need to up your game. I am not sure unless you are driving 4 horses why this person has the upper hand. Maybe they should just have driving classes and not segregate by sex. Wouldn’t you want to be the best driver and not the best woman driver?

I was just thinking of Ros Canter! She is so tiny she looks like a child (and I’m a tiny person, and she looks small to me) and a mom. Yet she’s one of the greatest eventers in the world.

Thank you for sharing that article. The Instagram of one of the profiled equestrians in article was also just delightful (although the post linked was a sad one).

Transgender people continue to face so much discrimination in our society. I can’t imagine someone choosing to transition as a way of dealing with their mental health problems.

As a feminist, I support “my body, my choice,” and that includes people choosing how they express their gender. On and off a horse.

In other sports, where physical strength/endurance is a big factor in performance, there are guidelines put into place for professional athletes who have transitioned regarding how long they have been on hormone therapy and so forth. And professional athletes in such sports are such a tiny % of the population, transgender athletes even a tinier % of such athletes, it shouldn’t be a deciding factor regarding transgender people and equality in our society.

Funny I didn’t get that from her post but I guess that’s the joy of the internet. Interpretation sometimes varies

Oh I’m very polite to those deserving as such. The fact that rudeness is more of a concern to you than bigotry disqualifies you from that consideration, alongside a dozen other things.

Anyway, I’m so proud to be a part of the LGBT community and an equestrian. I love that trans people can safely compete in equestrian events without worrying about hate and discrimination! I’ve been so blessed to have had so many trans people in my life, from family members, friends, and even partners. I will stand up for them and their right to be respected and accepted for as long as I live.

Oh your comment didn’t bother me. I just considered the source. I’m not the one who flagged it. But that kind of attitude is what keeps getting these threads locked.
And just because you (g) don’t like something or don’t agree with it doesn’t necessarily make it racist, misogynist or any other ist or what else you want to call it. It doesn’t make it untrue either.

There’s these things called dog whistles—you actually employ them often. You bringing up how “men pretend to be women to force their way into women’s sports” and casually defending red_mares for her blatant bigotry does, indeed, make your words transphobic.

Threads get locked because people like red_mares and you cannot help but come stir the pot for the sake of your “opinion”. Do you honestly believe that red_mares had good intentions when she made her posts? Despite the conservative moderators, I’d say that the users on this forum are largely left leaning. If you say things you know will get a rise out of someone, why are we at fault for reacting accordingly?

There’s so much negativity in this world—why do you (g) feel the need to bring it into a thread celebrating something joyful?

Looks like I broke your echo chamber.

I simply have no intention of giving up anything that has been designated for women to a man. I’m not sure how that is misogynistic. I have no problem showing against a man in an open setting, but if it is a class designated for women, hard stop. Why is that controversial?

The people I know who are trans have diagnosed mental issues, beyond their delusions about gender. I can’t help it that doesn’t fit with your (general you) world view.

And no, I don’t want or need a hug.
