Oaklawn Handicap and Ark Derby on Same Day/Older Horses

I was just looking over Oaklawn’s site. It’s the closest track to me, though still a LONG day’s drive and races. I went to the Ark Derby last year and loved it, decided to buy a ticket to this year’s again.

I noticed from their site they have the Oaklawn Handicap and the Ark Derby on the same date this year. Definitely don’t remember that from last year; must be new. That makes the day even more attractive.

I know it’s early in the year and plans change, but are there any older horses already known to be eying that race? I’m not up on who retired at the end of last year and who’s still around for more.

One of the most notable changes, and a welcomed one, is that Terry Wallace as the resident caller (in fact 20,191 consecutive races) has given way in 2012 to being Frank Mirahmadi, likely best known for being on TVG .

Good. I do remember being annoyed by the caller last year. Maybe just good in his day but past his prime, to give him credit - that’s an impressive total. But his calls the day I was there last year were awful.
