Aiden O’Brien has just won a record 9th Derby with Auguste Rodin. O’Brien was positively effusive about this horse in the post race interviews, which is unusual for him. The colt is by Deep Impact (Jpn) out of Rhododendron (Ire) who is by the world beating Galileo. A Coolmore homebred with huge stallion potential as he was also the leading European two year old last year.
Beautiful race! Is Auguste Rodin a tall horse? He seems to have an enormous stride.
@Maythehorsebewithme I’ve been looking for his height, searching online, and I can’t find anything. I don’t think he is abnormally tall or noticably small as there was no comment as such during the pre-race talk from the multiple experts covering the race. O’Brien did say he was a beautiful mover.
Auguste Rodin completes the Derby double at the Curragh today for Aidan O’Brien’s 100th European classic win.
Sadly there was a fatality; San Antonio broke down. Jockey Wayne Lordan was unhurt.
It is an exceptional horse to win both.
