I really love that Chitu colt, I remember I liked his breeze and he has a strong presence. I might add him to my equibase stable to keep tabs on him. Gives me the warm fuzzies

That should make a tidy profit for #438’s sellers, who purchased him for $200,000 as a yearling!

I see Peter Miller’s name as agent for a few purchases. I wonder if this is a career change, from trainer to bloodstock agent, or if he’s eyeing a return to the backside.

I love it when that happens!

That was interesting. I would think he had to be pretty darn bad if they needed to bring in outside help at Spendthrift, of all places.

Wasn’t there a famous stallion back in the day who actually killed one or two people on the ground? Maybe Fair Play?

Stallions have killed people in the past. I think stallion handling has come a long way though and handlers realize that brutality only makes stallion aggression worse.

I remember when this happened.https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/165231/calif-farm-owner-injured-in-stallion-attack

Dynaformer was very aggressive, he did bite the finger off a groom, but they found ways to accommodate his territorial nature.

@LaurieB and @EventerAJ Do you think that undue importance is given to the work/breeze times at the 2 Y/O sales? Is there any correlation between times at the sale and success at the track?

That was also interesting, especially since they decided to put him down afterwards.

Totally random thought, but I wonder if such a decision would be covered by the horse’s mortality insurance. I’m guessing maybe not.

I wondered at the time that was announced if Bolt has always been difficult or if he got harder to deal with once he started breeding - some stallions do. Medaglia D’Oro and the Sadler’s Wells line aren’t known for producing difficult temperaments, not like, for example, Halo was. But it’s certainly not unknown for a stallion to turn into a bit of a badass once he starts a stud career.

They’ve obviously found the threshold of what Bolt will and won’t tolerate. Good for everyone all around.

I wasn’t really expecting to see these prices for his babies. They must really have some “wow” presence to them. And nice fast works, of course.

If I remember correctly his yearlings were well received as well.

Here’s the full yearling sales stats for BDO. They were well-received, but nothing to indicate the prices we’re seeing now.

ETA: There was, of course, the $1.4 million colt, who is a half to Rachel Alexandra.

Still nothing for myracehorse, unless they’ve gotten sneaky and are buying under a different name.
