@Jenerationx #438 Bolt dâOro x Giantâs Causeway mare 900K hammer
I really love that Chitu colt, I remember I liked his breeze and he has a strong presence. I might add him to my equibase stable to keep tabs on him. Gives me the warm fuzzies
That should make a tidy profit for #438âs sellers, who purchased him for $200,000 as a yearling!
I see Peter Millerâs name as agent for a few purchases. I wonder if this is a career change, from trainer to bloodstock agent, or if heâs eyeing a return to the backside.
I love it when that happens!
That was interesting. I would think he had to be pretty darn bad if they needed to bring in outside help at Spendthrift, of all places.
Wasnât there a famous stallion back in the day who actually killed one or two people on the ground? Maybe Fair Play?
Stallions have killed people in the past. I think stallion handling has come a long way though and handlers realize that brutality only makes stallion aggression worse.
I remember when this happened.https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/165231/calif-farm-owner-injured-in-stallion-attack
Dynaformer was very aggressive, he did bite the finger off a groom, but they found ways to accommodate his territorial nature.
@LaurieB and @EventerAJ Do you think that undue importance is given to the work/breeze times at the 2 Y/O sales? Is there any correlation between times at the sale and success at the track?
That was also interesting, especially since they decided to put him down afterwards.
Totally random thought, but I wonder if such a decision would be covered by the horseâs mortality insurance. Iâm guessing maybe not.
I wondered at the time that was announced if Bolt has always been difficult or if he got harder to deal with once he started breeding - some stallions do. Medaglia DâOro and the Sadlerâs Wells line arenât known for producing difficult temperaments, not like, for example, Halo was. But itâs certainly not unknown for a stallion to turn into a bit of a badass once he starts a stud career.
Theyâve obviously found the threshold of what Bolt will and wonât tolerate. Good for everyone all around.
I wasnât really expecting to see these prices for his babies. They must really have some âwowâ presence to them. And nice fast works, of course.
If I remember correctly his yearlings were well received as well.
Hereâs the full yearling sales stats for BDO. They were well-received, but nothing to indicate the prices weâre seeing now.

ETA: There was, of course, the $1.4 million colt, who is a half to Rachel Alexandra.
Nice American Pharoah in the ring. 1M hammer
BdOâs better 2yr olds will be in Keenelandâs April sale. It will be interesting to see them.
542 should go well. MdO x Kellyâs Humor (Midnight Lute)

Still nothing for myracehorse, unless theyâve gotten sneaky and are buying under a different name.
Nice Arrogate filly o/o Galileo mare. I wonder how sheâll be received. #549
