OBS March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale

He did win the Test Stakes there with Gamine and she won the Ballerina last year. He won the Travers with West Coast and Arrogate.
He ran Illumination in the Test Stakes last year. He won the Whitney with McKinzie in 2019 and Improbable in 2020. He’s won the Prioress in the past etc…

I think he doesn’t always attend but the owners may enjoy watching their horses run there.

Didn’t Pharoah get beat there?

Yes. In the Travers.

I think Baffert just picks certain graded stakes at Saratoga that he thinks he has a horse for, and if it works with his California schedule, he sends them. LaurieB is right in that he doesn’t bring a lot of horses to the meet, but he does bring a few, and many owners love Saratoga.

@LaurieB, Funny that he whined to the court that being banned in NY would put him out of business.
I think it would easily be proved that it wouldn’t.

I am curious to see who Kaleem Shah sends the sale topping More Than Ready - Broad Spectrum colt. Shah had a lot of success with Baffert, but there’s bad blood between them now.

Yes, he did.

And the NYRA did prove to the court that it wouldn’t–by listing the paltry number of races that he’d entered in NY over the past decade.

He doesn’t run at Belmont Park except for the Belmont leg of the triple crown, does he?

I think he’s run a few horses on Belmont Champions Day (or whatever it’s called now) in October. I’d have to look that up; I know he prefers Del Mar and Santa Anita in the fall.

That was one of the things that impressed me most about that horse. I believe that was when Baffert pulled him out and let all the people in the crowd near the barn pet him the day after the race. Win or lose, I figured the horse must have a fantastic disposition for Baffert to do that with him.

He seems to be passing it on too. As a rule, his get look cool as cucumbers in the auction ring.

Yes, when I saw him last year in person at Coolmore, he seemed to be very mellow. I would still love to get one of his slow offspring one day as a show prospect.

It seems like he was using Simon Callaghan at Santa Anita and Del Mar last year…
Doug O’Neill got some of his horses when he left Baffert in 2017.
