OCD Pellets for Mature Horse

I’ve got two horses that I’m considering some bone support for - OCD Pellets, Osteon, Osteo-Aide, or the like. One is an FEI dressage horse who is laid up with a proximal suspensory that shows some roughening of the bone. The other has a cyst/OCD in the stifle on x-ray that we want to remain asymptomatic. Both horses already get Osphos.

Has anyone tried any of these supplements on a mature performance horse with any luck? Any favorites?

Thanks!

I just do joint injections and Absorbine flex max for my older guy who has an old, not very bad stifle ocd. I researched the OCD pellets a while ago but wasn’t really impressed.

I’ve used Osteon. Didn’t hurt. Might’ve helped. I dunno? I had my horse on it when he was laid up with a tendon injury and then got another bucket when we were dealing with pedal osteitis.

The horse I used them on was youngish but I had very good results with OCD pellets. Maybe the issue would have resolved anyway, but had very mildly bad X-rays. Horse is sound now and has been for over a year (just now stopping them.). Havent redone the X-rays and won’t unless I see lameness again, but I was impressed and would not hesitate to use them again with a bone issue. Maybe I got lucky as the surgeon I consulted told me to wait and the problem might go away. It seems to have knock on wood but too early to say, and who knows whether the supp helped as he thought it would possibly go away anyway and he is a top practitioner. Money well spent though if it did anything!

i wouldn’t expect things to improve much on an older horse. Maybe help stabilize?

Thanks everyone! @fordtraktor Yeah - I don’t expect his x-rays to improve at 12, and he’s never been unsound on it, but if there is something I can do to keep it from progressing, I’ll try.

My guy was not unsound with his ocd either. Given that, I’d not expect too much from the pellets then. A good joint supplement will help about the same.
