Odd question!

Hello everyone I’m hoping you can help me with a strange question!

One of my miniature donkeys eye began to water, swell up and get gunky. While I was flushing it with sailine, the donkey jerked his head causing eye gunk to fly around my eye. However, he did not hit or bang my eye.

I had the vet out and it has been diagnosed as an allergy but has not responded to treatment (an eyewash) and vet is coming back next week.

Now here is the strange part. The next day I woke up and my eyelid was droopy in the same eye the gunk flew in. It’s been like that for a week now. I’ve been to the doctor and was told it could be some sort of paralysis that may or may not been brought on by a virus or be a nerve paralysis. I can’t see that happening overnight though?? Could I have caught something from the donkeys eye? My doctor wasn’t overally sure what it was and said to keep an eye on it. But the drooping affects my vision and not to mention makes my face look quite strange.
Thanks in advance

Eyeball problems are scary. Have you been to a ophthalmologist?

I’d say it’s entirely possible that the donk transmitted whatever is wrong in his eye to yours, but an eye specialist really needs to weigh in on if you should be on an anti-viral or antibiotic or evaluated for a fungal infection.

I haven’t been referred to an optuamologist yet. My actual eye ball is fine it’s the skin above it that has dropped down and blocks my vision. I have no swelling, tearing or pain.

There are nerve problems such as Bell’s Palsy, which can cause this and yes it can happen overnight. Perhaps an ENT consult would be useful, or a neurologist, depending on what your PCP has observed.

Eek, that sounds quite scary. I would definitely go see an eye dr since its been a week. If it was just a reaction to getting something in your eye, I would have expected it to go away by now. Better to get it looked at and treated earlier if necessary.
