I’m buying a property with a barn that has (10) 12x12 stalls and all of them have this weird shelf that goes around the entire inside of each stall. There is even a piece of the shelf that can tip down to go across the stall door. Does anyone have any clue what these might have been used for? It was built by a “show horse equestrian” according to the listing. I don’t remember what type of horses they said they had though.
Maybe saddlebreds and that was a tail rail, so they don’t get their tail set mashed into the wall?
Tail boards were pretty common in the saddle seat world, to prevent tail rubbing. Also handy to set your brushes, meds, snacks, etc on
Definitely a saddle seat barn
hobby horse farm and the horses used the shelves for their projects?
Fully agree saddlehorse stalls
Tail boards - for horses wearing tail sets ~ ASB and Hackney ponies ~ show stock ~
Prevents them from rubbing their tails and/or getting their tail sets off ~
Also keeps some from getting down too close to the stall walls and getting ‘cast’ / unable to get up ~
Really nice stall ! Tail boards are well made - in great shape. Consider yourself lucky ~
Saddlebred barn. Those shelf’s are super handy and the board across the door is so nice and secure compared to a stall guard.
Slightly jealous.
While the workmanship is beautiful my horses would use those shelves as a poop catcher lol
Wow, thanks everyone! I tried searching online for an answer and got absolutely no where. I have so much to learn!
Poop and dust. LOL just something extra to clean.
