I’ve caught my horse with his head and neck resting over the top rail of his pen … he rests it right at the throat latch area and he seems to be in a trance … doesn’t acknowledge me right away … the guys the work there said another horse used to that who was across from him … is this an odd type of cribbing ? He’s not wind sucking or grabbing on with his mouth ( even though he is very mouthy and puts everything in it )
If he’s not doing something with his mouth, it’s not cribbing, but it could be a different stereotypy.
A pony at the barn I rode at as a kid rested his head/neck like that and would ‘swallow’ or something. Made a strange noise and no idea what the reason or cause was, just his thing.
They can fall asleep like this with their head supported.
I’m not very good at using this forum yet so sorry … how do I add a video
if you look at the tool bar of the reply page the eighth symbol from the left is to upload a file to the post , its the arrow pointing up over a solid bar
Thank you
He’s asleep. Holding himself up. He may be reluctant to lay down. If so, there may be a reason why he’s reluctant to lie down. The reason may be physical, or psychological. Good luck.
Just figured out why I can’t post a pic … I’m new user and don’t get that privilege yet lol
You can toss it up on imgur and link here
Is that an app
It’s a photo hosting website. You upload you pictures. You post the link to them here. We can view them.
Is this the same horse you posted about that’s twisting his head while lunging? Looking at the two issues together I would be getting a vet out ASAP to do neck x-rays and a thorough check for issues somewhere in the head/neck.
Yes same horse … I’ve sent videos of both things to my vet and she will be coming out . I had neck X-rays done 6 months ago in Europe and my vet looked at those at the time and there was no issues . But my last horse had a full set of X-rays done , also looked at by my own vets , then 6 months later he was neurological due massive arthritis in lower neck … that time I had a specialist look at it and gave it the ok … and both horses are young 5 and 7 .
