Odds for USA Team in Rio (in Dressage)

I’d say the odds for the current team to place in the top three is slim to none. What say the rest of you? I’m trying to be realistic. Just not enough depth of top riders in our country, nor top horses. And I think this team really has no shot at a medal. Maybe in 2020…

Now, as for individual placings, I think SP will be in the top 10 if Legolas gives him a great couple of rides. I think the same holds true for Verdades. If he can put in his best, he could be closer to the top 5. (I’d love to see him place in the top three, but just can’t see it happening this year.)

Agree. I see a team USA 4th place finish. Given the current English and German and dutch teams though thats still a pretty amazing finish.

Yeah, not sure if they’ll make 4th this time around. I hope they do, but I think that we’re pretty evenly matched with some of the other ones that won’t make it in the medals.

Just not our strongest year. :frowning:

I agree that We are probably going to be around 4th. Having two riders likely to be in the top 10 sounds good until you realize that leaves 8 top 10 spots to be split among the top 3 teams. Laura and Diddy did beat some of them in competitions recently (specifically the Dutch), and of course Steffen has at times, but I think it will be the Germans and Brits in the top 2, Dutch 3, US 4th.

FWIW, I did read an article recently that felt they could do as well as 3rd. Gal is off the Dutch team, for one thing.

Gal withdrew Undercover, but he’s still on the team with Voice.

Seems there are quite a few in Rio that have less experience on the international scene than we’ve seen in the past. The 5-10 positions, individually, could be very interesting. Heck, there could possibly be a bit of shake up in the top 5.

I just watched the German Team in Aachen, and they are LOADED FOR BEAR! Those ladies are going for gold, and I think they’ll get it! Brits will have one super score, and two very good ones. If the Dutch have a weak show, and the USA has a strong show, we might squeak by them. Should be interesting! Of course, if we knew the outcome going in, it wouldn’t be a horse show!

I see we now have an Olympics forum. Guess I posted this out here too soon!

I think the US has a slim chance of a bronze medal and a fairly strong chance of finishing 4th. Whatever the final results, I have a feeling our team will do a very respectable job.

Yeah, I’m more interested in individual results.

agree with netg with the top two places by a whisker and could go either way. It will be scrappy between germany and england

not thrilled with Charlottes new freestyle; might not get the music points

I don’t know much about choreographing a freestyle, but it seemed to be disjointed; like each movement was unattached to the next one.

But I am sure that Charlotte (who knows just a tad more than I do  ) feels that it is good. I can’t wait to watch them perform it again.
