ODH Spring 'walk-and-talk' trail series - *perfect* for anyone considering foxhunting

Old Dominion Hounds will host a spring Trail Ride series, which are designed expressly to give a slow gentle introduction to crossing our best hunt territories with your horse and friends! (With food afterwards - best of both worlds!!)
Guided Walk-and-Talks are planned April 25, May 9 and May 23!
All rides are on Saturdays, begin at 9 a.m., and will be about two hours at a WALKING ONLY pace (for green horses and/or riders, unfit horses and/or riders.)
Potluck lunch to follow each ride - the club provides drinks. We’ll likely be lunch-ing in the field for the first one - so think picnic fare. For rides number two and three, we’ll be ‘in the house’ so stuff that requires a plate and/or fork are fine for those.

  1. April 25: ODH hunter trials field (next to the kennels – at intersection of Route 688/Leeds Manor Road and Thumb Run Road in Orlean.)
  2. May 9: Foxhall Farm (on Route 637/Jericho Road – north end of North Poes Road - 1 mile off of US 522 in Flint Hill.)
  3. May 23: Hunter’s Rest (on Route 637/North Poes Road 1/2 mile north of Route 647/Crest Hill Road in Flint Hill.)

Non-riders are invited to attend – please if you’re interested in foxhunting but don’t have the right horse for it (or don’t think you do) - please by all means come ‘see us off’ and stay for lunch as my guest to talk to the hunters (and hopefully, new huntsman) to find out what it’s all about.
Please feel free to share details with anyone you think would be interested.

Sigh. I’ll actually be in the US for the first one, but far from you and in meetings all day! One of these times I’ll get to your place, I promise!

Someday I hope to bring Dune to one of these.

Great idea! I wish we didn’t teach riding lessons on Saturdays!

I’ve been on some of ODH’s trail rides with my mare. They are friendly, fun, safe, and welcoming. I highly recommend participating if you can!

Sounds like fun. Would be good for my younger mare, but quite the jaunt to be there and ready to ride at 9am( good 2.5 hour drive)

Simbalism - Come up Friday and we’ll do a pre-ride ride and stay the night!

HR, I will check out my calendar and see which ride I could do. Coming up the day before would be so much easier, especially since after riding then have to drive home again. Haven’t had the young mare out trail riding so far this year due to all the muddy conditions we have had. I tend to go to the steady eddie older mare when the conditions are less than ideal.
