Anyone know what the price is for the British horses being sold? I can only imagine it will be in the millions, perhaps 5-10 million dollars?

I think you are a bit low on your estimate; unproven young horses in Europe go for more than that (PSI Auction)
I’m guessing Valegro for less than Uthopia, in part because he is gelded and has his head shaking to be managed, but still in the 7 figure range.
It may also depend on CH’s thoughts on where he would like to see them and what the ultimate arrangements are.
The UK Daily Telegraph a few days ago quoted six million pounds each for Uthopia and Valegro. I don’t know their source.
Uthopia was almost sold at the end of last year to a Swedish rider but Carl ran around to various contacts and managed to sell part of his share so the horse couldn’t leave. But yes, they always were for sale. (Doesn’t mean anyone has to like it… :no:)
I just hope they find some British benefactors to buy those horses and keep them with their current riders.

There is just not that kind of money in the UK and those who do have it are often not inclined to spend it on dressage horses (or event horses) as there is very little way in return. I know some very wealthy folks who when prompted to buy an advanced event horse or GP dressage horse just laugh in my face.

Well, if I win the lottery tomorrow night, I’d be willing to scoop up Uthopia.
They need to be more creative in their sales approach. I was thinking more along the lines of such Brits as Richard Branson, Sir Paul McCartney, Elton John, David Beckham. They all have the money but perhaps not the interest in the sport. If only they could be persuaded to buy a show horse, they could keep those horses in the UK. Maybe now that the British teams had such great success in the Olympics, they might find a few potential owners for these horses.

You would think and lets hope so, but I am not holding my breath.
I realize its a long shot, but there will never be a better time with the British putting in such strong performances in all three disciplines. And while there is no money to be made, as there is in racing, its not every day that one can own an Olympic gold medalist either.
The Queen could do it, unless she’s lost her standing among the richest people in the world. She’s horsey and rich and presumably patriotic.

They made these two horses and they can and will do it again. THAT is the best news for GB. I understand they have at least one more Negro offspring coming up. Now whether Charlotte stays with Carl or begins her own barn I would take no bets but Carl will produce more top level competitors in both horses and riders. Can Carl BE more accomplished…maybe if he does it again…produce the NEXT Gold medal rider and 2 Golden medal winning horses. That would be something and I bet he will do it. PatO

She absolultely should buy at least one of them! I’d say Valegro.
Eurodressage suggested that the Bechtolsheimers could afford them, which would at least keep them under a British rider.
