Off the Rack Tall Boots with Patent Tops

Do they exist? I have seen them becoming ever popular amongst the dressage and showjumper riders, but can’t seem to find them.

I have an average foot and painfully average legs (read: not tall!), so it seems silly to pay for the custom boots if I don’t have to. Also, i’ve been reading horror stories about vogels, and la mundials not fitting properly at all. I would just as soon like to try them on in person before buying.

Ideas?

Would these be incorrect (they don’t seem to have enough patent)?

I don’t hunt (wish I could, but nothing out here), but my impression of ladies formal hunt boots is a full patent top, like these Dehners. I would think that the Ariats you linked to would look great in a formal hunter class, don’t know about actually in the hunt field.

How about these?

Honestly, though, I’d just go with the custom Dehners. They are only a couple hundred more than the off the shelf Ariats if you get them in Dragoon or Voyager leather. They’re classically styled and wear like iron, which I can’t say about the Ariat boots I’ve had.

ugh yes for hunting those boots would be very incorrect.
Patent leather tops are for ladies who have earned their colors not just everyone to wear.
Most good cobblers can make them and put them on for you, Vogel can also make some to fit your boots with a velcro thingie so you can remove them.

When my wife earned her buttons, a local cobbler, as suggested above, put tops on her beloved old dress boots for $120. They look great.

Incorrect based on the amount of patent or incorrect because of the Spanish tops?

I have recently earned my colors, which is why i’m looking for new boots. I have not been impressed with any after market tops on boots, and even less impressed with removable tops which add bulk.

It seems to make sense to buy a new pair of dress boot altogether rather than alter my existing ones since I only have one pair of dress boots, and would just as soon save those for joint meets, or when i’m a guest at another hunt.

I suppose I should just rephrase my post altogether: how incorrect are Spanish tops in the hunt field? I do like those DeNiros posted by Thoroughbred in Color.

I’m not interested in modifying my existing boots.

While not traditional, Spanish tops are fine in the hunt field unless you are trying to win a BTO competition. Honestly, I have much more of an issue with the zippers than with the shape of the tops.

Thank you for your response.

I think I would be DQ’d from any BTO competitions based on my black hunt bridle anyway.

Hmm, and maybe these DeNiro boots for cubbing…
