Off Topic "Friends ReUnited"

I’ve just come across a website,Friends Reunited, where you can add your name and primary/secondary schools and see the names of others who have also registered. There are sections for School Memories and Teacher Memories plus details about posters and what they are doing now. If you want to contact someone, you pay a fee and the site e mails that person with contact information. I’m suppose this type of site is old hat to many of you but I haven’t been aware of it before. What a good use of the Internet.

Wow! It’s brought back so many memories I’d forgotten about. The School and Teacher Memories are ordered by pupils’ year of leaving, so you can concentrate on those which apply to you, but can also see how the school experience changed (or not) over the years. Some teachers were around forever! (I found out that my English teacher is now a resident sex therapy expert on daytime TV!). You aren’t restricted to your own schools either so you can check up on what the “rival” schools got up to.

It is also an eye opener as to what some people have done in their lives and how far we’ve scattered over the globe.

I have only just registered and haven’t contacted anyone yet, but I recognise the names of some people I’d like to catch up with.

Has anyone else joined something like this and if so what have your experiences been? How old do you think people are when nostalgia first hits? Mid-thirties??

I did the classmates.com. Found a friend that had moved to Canada, Campbell River area, Vancouver Island. Had not seen or heard from her since '79. We have emailed. Also a “cousin” that still lives in Lake Oswego, we now email once in awhile.

I think it is fun. When does nostalgia hit, the first instant I think back on ANYTHING or ANYONE I loved.

“The older I get, the better I used to be, but who the heck cares!”

I’ve got to post this extract (not posted by me but more eloquent than mine, which just said “I agree with everyone else!”)) about our malevolent games mistress that stalked the school between 1962 and 1980 at least. It reflects many others in similar vein about this lady!! (Aren’t you glad you went somewhere else!). Where was Buffy when we needed her?

"- Miss G***
Miss G*** was one of the most offensive people I have ever met. Is she still alive ? I always had a nasty feeling that she wasn’t really mortal but one of those souls who wander the earth for eternity, never growing older, torturing generation after generation.

She used her shower regime as a punishment mechanism. Why, when we had gym or games perhaps three times a week, were we only required to shower after one of those sessions ?

I also remember Miss G***'s foot inspections, where we were required to lie on our backs, with our knees tucked up to our chests, so that she could inspect our feet for cleanliness and veruccas ! This bizarre procedure was carried out whilst we were wearing our brown fleecy knickers and yellow aertex shirts. Need I say more ?"
