In general people get true OTTB direct from the track, or from a rehoming organization. The challenge here is dealing with a big high energy 4 year old that is Born To Run. Lots of people also buy older TB that did spend time at the track but have been restarted and are functional in a discipline.

Problems tend to be: high energy and too reactive for a given rider. Old track injuries that don’t fully resolve, including ulcers. And maybe a bit more fragile or sensitive than some other breeds.

But yes, dozens of threads on here.

I would not recommend a fresh OTTB for most juniors. They can be great juniors horses after they have been thoroughly restarted, but I’ve seen too many juniors and ammies come to grief with projects.
