Ogilvy Half Pad

So I did a search but couldn’t seem to find exactly what I’m looking for. I’m getting ready to order the jumper half pad. I’m currently debating a color for the body, as I want it to go with everything. Does anyone have a picture of the “greige” color? If I were to use the pad for schooling and showing, would the white be a bad choice, or does it wash pretty well? What color would you pick? Thanks for all the help!

ETA: How does their embroidery look?

I just bought one about 3 weeks ago and 2 of my clients each bought one at the same time. We love them!!! Mine is navy with grey trim and burgundy piping (my barn colors). One of my clients got white as the base color. It looks great now but I don’t think it is going to hold up well. Her trim is navy with burngundy piping so I don’t think she can bleach it. My other client got hers in beige with hunter green trim and white piping, which looks fabulous. We all got the script monogram on the wither and I love it. I saw the swatches in person a while ago and don’t remember not liking any of the main colors. I think you can’t go wrong with whatever you pick. Some of the trim and piping options were a little crazy!

I have the white and only use it for shows. I don’t think it would hold up to every day use. You can take the pads out and wash the liner, but I think you would have to wash it all the time to keep it looking decent.

The white holds up better than one might think. That said, it’s still white, and I personally prefer the look of the colored ones anyway, even for the show ring (sleeker, I think). I don’t know which color the “greige” is exactly, but the grey ones in general wear really, really well. The very dark colors (black and brown) eventually show some wear…a bit of fading and then some smoothing out under the saddle panels. Still, nothing structurally wrong with them and really nothing that you see with the saddle on.

My white one has brown staining on it from my saddle. It does come out in the wash, however, and I haven’t even tried bleach yet. But, it’s not pristine. Having white around horses is begging for dirt to find it!

If you look up Shop Dapple Gray on facebook, the owner posts loads of photos of orders coming in and swatches. That’s how I picked out my colours.

I have been looking at buying a ogilvy pad for a while… But I can’t decide on the colors either. There’s just so much to choose from! If you’re looking for some inspiration, ogilvy has a page on Instagram where they post a ton of color combinations. You can always buy an extra pad cover, so you could keep a white cover for showing, and a colorful one for schooling.

Check out Ogilvy FB page for great colour combinations & embroidery

More info please?

For you old timers, how do they compare to Skito half pads?

What up with their being so large and coming down so far below the panels of the saddle near the cantle?

Do they narrow things up in front a heck of a lot? (My Skito does not and absorbs shock well, so I’m looking for a replacement……after 20 years.)

WTF with their website? I went to the links you guys gave, but I can’t find enough info and color swatches and all to order.

Thanks for your help.

I have had a white one for several years now, since they first came out. It washes very white but does get dirty in between. I mean, it’s in a barn. Of course it gets dirty! But I don’t mind as long as it washes up clean, which it does once a month or so. You take the memory foam out and wash the cover.

They are thick, MVP, and will narrow a saddle fit some. I can only use it on one of my horses because it narrows too much on the others. They others use a Thinline Ultra which is very thin and doesn’t seem to impede saddle fit. Or nothing. I never had a Skito so can’t speak to that.

The other pad my horses like is a Supracor. My one horse with a sensitive back likes it better than the Ogilvy. It is more cushy but again, narrows the fit so you have to watch what you are putting it on. It happens that the saddle I already had works well with the Supracor on this horse, but if I had a custom I would just use that instead of that and one of these thick pads.

I have an Ogilvy jumper half pad and 2 baby pads. My half pad is black with red trim and white piping and I love it. Someone at my barn has the grey and it’s very nice too. I didn’t know you can buy just the covers. I don’t see that on the site. Can you guys point me in the right direction?

I can’t comment on the “greige” color other than to suggest looking at Ogilvy’s instagram page or Dapple Gray’s FB page.

They definitely do tighten the fit, I used mine with my old saddle, but with my CWD it makes it sit really high and funny, which His Highness does NOT like, so we use a Thinline now.

As far as the extra covers, you are better off just buying another pad, since they are $150 and a new pad is $200. The other option for covers, is that you could get the Ogilvy with a white cover, and Greenhawk sells covers for their memory foam pad (that looks exactly like an Ogilvy, but I’m sure the memory foam material is not of the same quality). The Greenhawk covers only come in a few colors, but they are only ~$50. I am not 100% positive it will fit, as I haven’t tried (my Ogilvy is black with black trim and baby blue piping).

Not like the Skito pads at all, I’m afraid.

I love my Ogilvy pads and their service is wonderful, but the half pads are pretty d*mn thick and will definitely change the fit of a saddle up front. I bought one after falling in love with their full pads, thinking I would use the halfie for showing, over a fancy-schmancy (thin) square pad… but it’s way too much padding for that. So I have a very pretty half pad decorating my trunk now, sigh.

I do very much like the shape, though - particularly the portion under the cantle, as it gives the saddle a nice cushion to sit on, and it doesn’t shift around.

That said, the square pads with the integrated (removable) inserts are freakin’ fabulous, and are now the only.pad.I.use. I got a nice pristine one for showing since the other two get daily use and although they launder up pretty nicely, they are no longer show-worthy.

The website is pretty basic but you can find them on Instagram and see about a million different color choices. The workmanship is terrific.

I’m a big big fan. Like others said, the white is certainly white and won’t stay pure snow white - but I wash mine every few weeks and it does wash out REAL well. I do bleach mine.

Their website is great - I can’t load it right now, so guessing that’s a temporary issue. I had an issue with mine, and the owner personally called me on his CELL PHONE to help me out… A+ for customer service. I’m getting one of the pads lucassb talked about, but I loved my half pad. It WILL affect the fit, and I recommend ordering the thinner option. But I do really really love my half pad.

Thanks for the reviews, especially about the fit. And the Million Colors psychs me up, too.

The thinner one is more dough, eh?

Can you guys make some recommendations suitable for my situation?

I’m riding some bad-moving, badly-built horses right now with my dying Skito pad between me and them.

I have one saddle that fits them enough to get work done, but I can’t narrow it any more and be fair to the horses.

OTOH, I need something that absorbs enough shock that I can protect my back a bit. Boy-howdy these horses put milage on my body!

Oh, and I’d prefer a pad covered in cloth so that I’m not being hard on the fine-grained leather on the underside of my saddle’s panels.

Last but not least, I’m both vain and cheap, so I’ll pay for the right piece of equipment, but I’d like it come in barn colors plus be washable.

Ergh. I’d really try the Thinline Contour pad for most of those issues. It’s superthin, wipes clean, won’t be hard on your saddle leather and is GREAT on your human back. It doesn’t do barn colors, though – I would definitely get black in Thinline because the white goes dingy after a few years.

I have a bad back (pinched nerve) and the Thinline is really the only one I can tell a difference on for me. It’s good stuff. I don’t really like the half pad they make though, it’s too thick IMO.

Another

Ogilvy does custom work so if you have special considerations, give them a call.

From Ogilvy website

We would like to mention that the new Gummy Half Pad will not act as a replacement to the Original Memory Foam Half Pad. We at Ogilvy Equestrian developed the Gummy Half Pad to offer an alternative to riders who have the need for a thinner half pad. At only 1/2inch thick, this half pad will still have maximum shock absorption but will offer a closer contact between the rider and horse. It all depends on the fit of your saddle and back of your horse. At Ogilvy Equestrian we recognize that not all riders and horses have the same requirements and we will continue to develop products that fulfill the needs of both horse and rider.

MVP, is this your Skito pad? http://www.marystack.com/skito-equalizer-pad.html

If so, maybe you should just get another one! Looks nice! I am tempted myself! Does it not change the saddle fit much?
