What is your opinion about the ogilvy half pad? I was looking to get one
There must be half a dozen threads on this. Here are a few…

I like mine a lot; I swear it helps my back.
I have one. It’s nice. I like that I could customize it.
Did you get it from the dealer themselves or did you buy it off ebay? Beacuse I see alot of them on there and they seem cheaper??

When I bought mine, I bought new from Ogilvy. You can pick up used for a little cheaper, but most of the time it’s close to the same “new” price. They hold their value because they are so hot to have right now. I was able to sell mine for the same amount I bought it for, after being used a ride or two a week for 6 weeks.
I didn’t find it did anything for my horse. It was fun to customize, and it was cool to say I had an Ogilvy. However, I was terrified to use it or get it dirty. I hated to wash it. So I bought the $35 Lami-Cell instead. It holds it’s shape and doesn’t compress as bad, which is good because my saddle needs a slight lift. However, it is still shock absorbing. Best thing about it? I can wash it off with the hose after riding, and if it breaks or I ruin it, it’s $40 or so to replace.
I am going to be a slight voice of dissent, only because they are too thick, even the gummy pads.
They change the way your saddle fits, and if it fits well, it will be too small with a super thick memory foam pad underneath it. I own one, it does well under a saddle that is a bit too wide for prissy mare.
I also own an EcoGold Flip pad and love it, it’s a different feel, less floaty, more stable.
I have also fallen in love with the Wilkers Memory Foam half pad, it is thinner than the Ogilvy, quilted underneath and stays put. They still come in a million colors, and they don’t take forever. We just ordered several for customers and they took 11 days shipped.
Sorry for the early morning ramble, I would just say do your research before you spend a lot of money!
I liked the pad for my back, but it didn’t work well for my low withered horse. Its A LOT of pad and in my opinion was over priced. I didn’t keep mine long. They’re pretty, but I wouldn’t buy another. It also drives me crazy that’s there’s so much pad hanging down on the sides of the saddle. I don’t like what it looks like.
I looove mine. I definitely don’t think it’s too thick.

I love mine. I don’t find it too thick. A lot of people don’t realize there’s two thicknesses in the memory foam that are available IN ADDITION to the gummy pad. I have the 1" memory foam and its great. Does not change the fit and my saddle fits well. I use it for my own back. I definitely notice a difference if I ride a horse without the ogilvy. I always ride my own with my ogilvy.
I have the hunter version ogilvy half pad and its the 1/25" thick foam and THAT is too much for my horse. But the regular 1" thick half pad is perfect.
I purchased mine from a dealer (ie. tack store).
I highly highly highly recommend you find someone with one and ride in it for a w week or two. There have been a bunch of cases where it did more harm than good. One of my friend’s hunters started acting super weird and stopping – I said it was the pad. They brought the vet out and she said stop using the pad.
When I tried my newest horse, as we all do, I used the seller’s saddle pad set up, which included an Ogilvy half pad. I am not that familiar with the different types, but it was very squishy. I kept wondering why I felt like I was rocking back and forth, and later realized it was the Ogilvy.
I don’t mean to be rude, but I am thin, and it may be that the Ogilvy pads work better for a heavier rider.
ToTheNines I am not that thin (not heavy either! Think 32 breech and 5’7") and Ogilvy’s do the same thing to me. … .
I think they’re really pretty but I can’t follow the logic behind the memory foam trend. I feel like when they compress to their maxium, they just create a hard pressure point. I have a hard time believing something so thick and squishy can actually absorb shock. I might consider one for a horse whose saddle is too wide… But I’ll just stick to my trusty mattes over here
