Oh that was fun - Truck stolen

So there has been a rash of F250’s and up getting stolen around here. Friday I went out with the dog for him to go potty and my truck was gone. Thinking um…maybe for some reason it got towed went into the office and they said no we didn’t tow it.

After that I came to the conclusion that my truck was stolen the night before or early morning. At this point I was totally freaking out and crying. Had the police come out and take a report etc. Called the insurance company and started a claim while crying because my albion dressage saddle was in there and a few other horsey things. My insurance covers me for a rental car so got that arrange. Since I have a debit card I needed to have a SC which I didn’t. I still had MD. Enterprise took me to the DMV to get my SC DL. Was missing something with SSN on it. Enterprise took me back to my apt and I grabbed my ssn card. Getting the lisence was way to easy.

Enterprise picked me up and I got my car. After drinking wine and taking a couple xanax to keep me from losing it. Because my horse is supposed to be going to Ocala this weekend. 10 pm the police call me they found my truck. It had run out of gas and was abandoned. I was like well I had only 1/4 tank or so because I was going to fill up on my way to work. They ripped out the ignition and took my saddle.

Truck is towed and the police called me today. The thiefs left a ball hitch and a glove in my truck. They are thrilled because 99% of the trucks get lit on fire and no evidence is left. Since mine was empty…lol

I still need to get it fixed and probably something done with the fuel lines. I am so fortunate that it was found but I am reall perturbed about the saddle.

They left Kane’s candy canes…lol

I’m so sorry!!!

Sorry, check pawn shops for the saddle. Call all tack shops too and keep looking on CL. Fingers crossed.

That sucks. Ford truck are the easiest to steal of all the trucks. We have had a really hard time with truck theft in Alberta and Saskatchewan. My sister had her stolen a few years back she was lucky like you and got it back. She traded it in not long after as she said it didn’t drive the same after.

It just feels strange. I had the locks on my apartment changed so I could sleep without aniexty. They had to watch me because my apartment is not on a main road…you have to know it is back there…and know my schedule. I plan on getting a hidden fuel switch installed which I will turn off at night.

I am so sorry OP, I know what you are going thru… SO’s Saab got stolen right from under him on the street… it’s such a shaking experience. So glad you found your truck - hope it is not in too bad shape.

I wouldn’t leave a saddle in a truck in SC. I stayed in Aiken for 2yrs, and actually met a girl (who became a close friend) because while she went in to pay for gas at a gas station someone stole her car. She had just moved to Aiken from VA, and had all of her horsey belongings in there. It’s [was] a pretty common theft in Aiken, to steal saddles from trucks/trailers. I am so sorry, I hope you get your saddle back.

At least Kane will be happy to hear his canes weren’t stolen

ETA: I second checking local tack shops - call all of them now - they have a pretty good network, and will network for your saddle. Print out an image of the saddle and identify any scuffs or unique marks on it - if you know the saddle’s serial #, even better. Hope you can find it, that is a very nice saddle.

OP, that sucks, I’m so sorry! Glad you got it back, but I send those bastards the explosive diarrhea curse!!!

First, I’m sorry about your truck. It’s happened to me and it sucks, big time. Since then, I have a kill switch installed on every vehicle we purchase and it has deterred would-be thieves twice that we’re aware of.

Really, really sorry this happened to you. Now I’m scared since I live not too far from you in NC and drive an F350 4x4.
I do have a doberman that goes with me most places and I think the locals probably know about her. But, we live one county over from Robeson, county with the highest crime rate in the entire US.
Asking hubby to install kill switch ASAP.

They are really hoping what they found helps find the people who are doing this at least one of the people.

Last night was the first night I slept a good night sleep because of the aniexty. I have been trying to reduce the amount of anti-aniexty pills I take but right now isn’t the time.

On a good notes…I did have a really positive interview for a job yesterday. It lasted two hours and they brought me around to introduce me to everyone. I have a good feelng about this. The interview I had last week today is a follow up call.

Sorry your saddle got stolen, your truck too. We leave the keys in our Ford hoping it will be gone in the morning. No such luck… There probably isn’t a thief that can get ours started. I really do hope your saddle turns up. Good thinking to change your door locks. Better they took the truck and left, rather then causing more headaches for you.

Keep your eyes on pawn shops, local consignment tack shops and auctions, Craigslist and eBay for your saddle. (And inform the first few options that it is missing, so if it comes in they may notice right away.) If your saddle is found that may also provide big clues to help catch the thieves.

It isn’t like my truck is new. It is a 2004 but they are taking the big ones. He sat and warmed it up also on the cold morning. He is lucky I didn’t come out with the dog…

So sorry! I forwarded this to my friend who has a new F-250.
Not to hijack, but we need to get a horse back up here from Ocala…

IF I had my truck and trailer I would bring it back up. I am having to pay a shipper to take my horse down there. grumble grumble.

Tell you friend these people are very sneaky and it is rampant in West Ashley. I think I have cried so much this week. It feels like someone ransacked my underwear and sock drawer. Last night I had a job interview and I had to really focu on them.

As well as eBay. Do you know the serial number? Last year a bunch of high end saddles were stolen and the owner posted pictures of the saddles and serial numbers on eBay, when the saddles showed up on eBay it was easy for other equestrians to alert the owner by comparing the two ads.

<<hugs>> So glad your truck is back and I hope your saddle shows up. So sorry you have to go through all this.

I didn’t know they could put in a hidden fuel shutoff. Something to remember.

The police haven’t released it yet so it still isn’t in my possession. I talked to the insurance company and they said the police will contact me when the truck is released. I have no idea why they are holding it but there is probably a good reason.

A wonderful Cother sent me a link to saddle on the Jacksonville craigs list and they didn’t reply to the email.

Could they be dusting it for fingerprints?

I had my car stolen from right out of our driveway. It was a bit of a perfect storm. DH dropped me off at the airport as I was headed to the UK, came home and apparently didn’t lock it properly. My keys had fallen out of my purse, and were in the car unbeknownst to me . The thieves (who generally hit streets looking for wallets, iPods, money etc) found that they must have thought they hit the jackpot!! LOL

DH went out the next day and car was gone. Neighbor comes out and says police were there questioning them because car was reported as the getaway in a 7/11 hold-up so I was the prime suspect :D. Fortunately being in the UK was a good alibi.

Car was later reported doing donuts in Dairy Queen parking lot in another city, than came back here and was found on Crooks Street (no joke) in our local town. Through fingerprints and footage from the convenience store they did charge someone with the crime of possessing stolen property.

The only thing that really bugged me was that they took my stuff and TRASHED my car. It was disgusting to clean up.

Hang in there OP - I hope you get your stuff back - I had some smaller items stolen and that was the worse part.
