Ok milk testing peeps! What's the longuest you've had a mare hold to 6.2 pH? COLT!

I bought the Mother Natures Mare Foaling Predictor Kit off of Valley Vet. It arrived today. I immediatetly ran down to the barn and got a sample of my mare’s milk.

Her test came up 85%. It took maybe a minute for the color to fully develop. I am taking that to mean we still have a few days to go? She is only on day 312 but is HUGE, has good bag/milk, vuvla elongated and around she is sunken in around her tail.

Of course I called my vet to let them know and he said this test is not one he would rely on at all. He said the only one he is comfortable with is Chemetrics. I called Chemetrics and they don’t have any in stock, but might in a few days UGH.

Anyone else try this test and had accurate results?

I don’t know that one?

Do you have access to pool strips?

Ugh. Going on 48 hours since the first 6.2 pH.

36 hours if we’re counting since the first 6.2 with the canary edges!

Let’s go… Share the misery. Laurierace had one hold for 80 hours… What’s the longuest you’ve had them hold on a 6.2?

One of our mares went 36 hours with a strong 6.2 pH…yet the next mare went 10 minutes later. Go figure!

So mine is creeping into the “bad mare” zone.

36 hours. Check!:dead::sleepy:

I can’t remember the longest I’ve ever had one go at that point, but the longest this year (so far) was a full 7 days. And she also waxed/dripped milk for the entire 7 days, too.

Had her foal less than 5 hours after testing

see other posting

No foal. :frowning:

I’m not testing anymore, there’s no point. Two sets of eyes have seen the strip, she is where she is and no foal. Please tell me that’s not a sign of something bad coming along?

If so… Please foal around 8:30 am, when I’ll know there’s a good chance my vet is close by…

I have one that regularly goes 2-3 days at 6.2 pH, except this year. She regularly foals at around 363 (364, 363,362, and 363) day average for the four foals I’ve had out of her…this year she presented us with a (large) still born filly with a smallish udder and no drop in pH at day 330…so sad! It was also a very bad distocia, and mare prolapsed. Mare is now fine, and appears will have a future in breeding, but will probably use her for ET next year. This is the first time she hasn’t followed her exact foaling routine. Feel so bad for her!

 glad the mare is ok in the end!

2-3 days wouldn’t surprise me either. Hack, we’re at two full days since the canary colored edges 6.2 !

I stopped testing a day or so before my mare went as well. I figured she was already testing ready, no way she could test readier. Hope all is well and your wait is over soon.

Last year my mare went 4 days at 6.2.

I am just exhausted. And to top it off, I am swamped with work in the office as well. Ugh. I can’t see clearly. :sigh:

Ok, so let’s just make this a painful, tiring, but uneventful birth, please.

Well the second option, after foaling in the middle of a thunderstorm, would be doing it when it’s 30+ degrees out there and humid, which just happens to be on Sunday apparently:-) keeping fingers crossed she goes before, but jussst sayin!

Actually, there’s also Friday night so you KNOW you’ll have to pay emergency fees for a snap test. :dead:

Like TheBandit, my mare went 4-5 days with a 6.2 reading last year - she hit 6.2 on Monday, foaled the next Saturday morning at 2 am.

ASB - were you ready to punch her? omg…

Last year, 7 days! She was so restless the last 3 nights, she didn’t lay down a single time, but looked so uncomfortable! I have never been so sleep deprived in my life  (and I have an outside job as well, so I have tons of sympathy for you!)

Ugh. She has been more and more uncomfortable. Flehmen, yawn, one leg, then the other one, bite sides, chew wood, waddle around, pee every darn half-hour, same goes for poop.

Yeah, thank goodness I figured how to clean a straw-bedded stall like a pro!

Punch her? I was ready to SHOOT her. And myself. :dead:
