Okay, CA Clique... we need to talk about your epic

Bumpkin, et al: My reason for posting the posts vs. views was that someone had commented on the large number of views the CA Clique thread had gotten as a reason for letting it continue. I took 30 seconds to do some math… didn’t know that made me “anal.”

We are not doing away with cliques. We are doing away with never-ending threads that wander from topic to topic to topic… Everybody understand?

Now, let’s wrap up the thread and move on, so I don’t have to lock it.

Do you mean we have a fan club??? All the way back in New Hampshire? (“You like us? You really really like us”??!!) Please feel free to jump on in, the more the merrier we say!!!

“Of course, that’s just my opinion. I could be wrong.” - Dennis Miller

How long was the first CA clique thread? The Canadians topped you at 40 pages, right?

Now we’re at 60 pages.

The junior thread made it to 100 pages.

What I’m saying is that it’s gone over the line, and it needs to stop. No matter which clique it is.

Thanks Louise… my words are not coming out right today, for some reason.

And I’m not trying to be a b*tch about this. My patience is just very thin this week… work, greenie TB is being an idiot, first event on Saturday… You get the picture.

Heidi, in real life Mare Winningham has like seven or eight children!!!

Not a clique, it’s a serial

Ignorance is Bliss!!

If you miss one of these, so called “tidbits”, what does it matter?

Life goes on.

Why like Suave put it, Micro Manage, a group of older BB’ers who invite anyone, from EAST or WEST to join in?
I see far more people wondering why are you wanting to kill that fun on here, instead of wanting to stomp out this thread.

Hang in there Erin. We all can relate to the greenie part! Just be careful, and safe, we need you to keep us in line

Erin I see many of your points, but I am afraid avoiding cliques is just going against human nature.

My non-horsey example is from my attending 3 high school reunions.

10 year - Everyone was in their same cliquish groups, high school deja vu…yuk(not being of the incrowd mind you)

20 year - Some broken up into some same ol’ gang groups but much more of a mixer feeling. Softball game with everyone cheering everyone on.

30 year - Who the h*LL cared anymore. Maybe we were just glad to see everyone was still alive and kicking, we were from those raucous late 60’s you know. Lots of brain cells missing, but hey a fun bunch.

So if there are some that want to meet at that same old booth in the corner at the coffee shop, so be it. I sure do not take offense, and once in awhile stop by to eavesdrop.

Like all of us old timers, it(the thread) will probably die a slow but timely death. When it is dang well ready! Just the way I hope to go.

I was hoping the thread would die out on its own and I wouldn’t have to bring this up, but…

I’m not really nuts about the idea of certain groups staking off little corners of the BB to hold essentially private conversations. Especially not for 40, 50, or 60 pages, and probably to continue on indefinitely.

Now, I totally appreciate that people like chatting among groups of friends they’ve made on the BB. But couldn’t some of this stuff be shared via email? And as for the rest, don’t you think other people on the BB might like to participate? (Without having to plow through 60 pages, that is.)

In short, I think it’s time to come back out and play with the rest of us. I’m not going to lock the thread, yet, but I do think it’s time to let it go.

O.k I must also admit… sigh …I also read the thread faithfully. There I said it

But I read the “epic” thread faithfully and participate occasionally.

As I see it, you have no problem with subject changes as different threads, just not on the original thread. If it’s a techie thing to make the BB’s run smoother, I’m sure no one could object. If it’s that the earlier posts in the live thread are inaccessible, then would you object to a new and daily California clique thread?

I’m afraid your point in posting escapes me otherwise, since the content of the thread is usually horse related fluff, frequently funny, and probably enjoyed by a large number of non California folks. Look at the number of views versus the number of posts. Lots of lurkers look.

Or is this an east coast versus west coast thang?

I posted a longer version of the following on the offending thread.

Okay, how about setting up several topics that at least give us a hint that they pertain to the California horse scene - or perhaps the AHSA Zone 10 horse scene to as to make it a bit more inclusive. Each could begin with something like “CA:” or “Z10:” so we’d know that it was of more interest to those of us on the left coast or “NorCal:” or “SoCal:” or something else to let the Left Coasters know that it is something more pertinent to our sheltered existence.

Here are some possible examples: Z10: Pebble Beach Classic Shows; SoCal: Schooling Shows in Southern CA; NorCal: A-Circuit Trainers near Stanford?; SoCal: Successes of merry’s Hammy and beezer’s Spot; etc. The resulting threads would be shorter and probably self limiting, but we out here would know the thread might be of interest. And, for those misplaced Californians, it would be a hint as to where in the country the topic originated.

I guess what I’m saying is that we’d better do something before Erin locks the thread and we’re left in the dark.

Cheers, Lurker

CactusKate a true Northwesterner!!!
Shouldn’t you be KateFir? haha

the Reflux thread right??? I was afraid to even look.

quote:
I’m not sure I understand. Most of the time the thread has been horse related and if we close the thread and we open a new one the same 10-12 people will continue to post and we will continue to discuss a variety of things like we have been doing. Sooooo what am I missing here? Wasn’t Off Course started for that purpose

What I’m saying is, I don’t think the same 10-12 people chatting off in the “corner” of the BB is such a good idea.

Yes, the thread has been horse-related for the most part. But not all the time. And don’t you think people who don’t read the thread are missing some information or discussion that they might enjoy, because it’s just one little tidbit buried in a 60+ page thread?

And yes, I’ve enjoyed reading most of it as well. But I don’t like this trend of people segmenting little groups off and using the BB as a chat room. That’s not the purpose of the BB, or of Off Course.

Why not just start some new topics if you have things to share, rather than continuing to tack them onto the same thread? As long as they’re horse-related, that’s what Off Course is here for.

I agree with what vineyridge said. We are not excluding anyone, the thread appears to be read by alot of people and we include every one that wants to be included.
Is it the title that is bothering you and/or some posters that don’t like to see the long threads.

How about “California Thread Gets Naked?” Then everyone will read it.

well Erin, sorry about the Jr.Clique-helk, sorry about all of the cliques! No matter what’s bothering you, what’s bothering anyone, we all need to think straight in this matter, and not let our emotions get in the way. Now, CA clique-I know you’re upset about you’r loveley thread going away, but maybe it’s time to move on? I mean, all of these subjects can be discussed on seperate threads, and the same fun and fluff can be had by all Don’t think of it as a burrial, think of it, well, more as a new beginning.

And Erin:

Maybe we should address this matter as a whole on an entire board, not just to one certin clique. I know that you’ve been flamed, and are on the edge of pissing on someone’s foot (sorry about the terms) but lets talk aboput this as a whole board, not just as the CA clique against Erin, because that’s what it’s become. You’re doing the right thing here.

Everybody- Let’s not do the clique ting anymore, people from dressage boards, and the other boards probably feel left out. The thread dosen’t bother me, I just skip over it, but I think more discussion could be had, and more fun by all if it was open to the general public. I know you haven’t excluded anyone from your clique, but reading CA CLIQUE, does sort off turn us easterners off a bit

So-My opinion:
Let’s do away with ALL of the cliques, spread it out, so that fun discussion could be had by all And-also-guys, let’s NOT forget who MODERATES these boards, eh? Erin has an importance, and we all can still get kicked off the boards, just like in school(I’mn sure you remember) you didn’t talk back to your teachers. Erin deserves the same respect. Come on guys-talk this out WITHOUT yelling… well…typing loudly that is!

I am Phat, not to be confused with Fat, which could save you hundreds of dollars in poop, so stop calling me! *Callin me mam’ is like puttin’ an elevator in an outhouse…it just don’t belong.

Oh, I like the term “epic”! Makes me feel right up there with Homer!

I certainly see your point. But I buried one California thread already this year, so don’t ask me to be the one to give the eulogy. Besides, I don’t look good in black this time of year.

However, a simple black dress, topped with a COTH cap, might do the trick…
