Okay, CA Clique... we need to talk about your epic

I was hoping the thread would die out on its own and I wouldn’t have to bring this up, but…

I’m not really nuts about the idea of certain groups staking off little corners of the BB to hold essentially private conversations. Especially not for 40, 50, or 60 pages, and probably to continue on indefinitely.

Now, I totally appreciate that people like chatting among groups of friends they’ve made on the BB. But couldn’t some of this stuff be shared via email? And as for the rest, don’t you think other people on the BB might like to participate? (Without having to plow through 60 pages, that is.)

In short, I think it’s time to come back out and play with the rest of us. I’m not going to lock the thread, yet, but I do think it’s time to let it go.

Oh, and Merry, I don’t have a COTH hat, so I’ll be wearing my hard hat. It is a lovely blue velvet, so I’ll be trendy, yet demure.

(I was told by a lovely woman at the LA Opera that one can wear velvet in LA in any season. Shocking. Back east - at least where I am from - March is the velvet cut-off.)

“What I’m saying is, I don’t think the same 10-12 people chatting off in the “corner” of the BB is such a good idea”

Erin: again…

Number One: How can you control who posts and who doesn’t assuming we are all “playing nicely and it’s horse related and so forth”?

Number Two: Wasn’t that the reason the “Off Course” area was developed was to accomodate those whose topics didn’t fit in any where else?

You say that this is not a “good idea”. Why not? There are 100’s of threads to choose from and available on which to post. May of us do post on other threads as well. Again, I fail to see the problem.

Why micro-manage this? If there isn’t a problem why fix it?

I don’t believe that any one said that the thread has the most views per post, in fact I don’t think most people would bother to calculate it out. I didn’t think this was a contest of which thread gets the most views per thread.

I am also of the opinion that if people were not interested in this thread they wouldn’t read it. It is a fun thread, and is informative at times, that is not being mean or malicious to anyone.

I didn’t know we were being scored on readability. I say, if that’s the case then obviously we need to talk about things besides horses, which is all that thread was really talking about anyhow.

In the grand scheme of life, if it’s not breaking the BB, which it’s not, then what difference does it make?

Kind of a big co-inky-dinky that this is coming on the heels of a few BBers asking another not to discuss details of their personal life, is it not?

Heidi, your Mare Winningham joke: !

Is that some sort of sign of where your career is headed when your name is associated with Movies of the Week? But I digress…

Oh Erin, I sooooo comprehend the troubles with a greenie. I mean, at 4, aren’t they supposed to be perfection under saddle by now? I mean, I’m perfect, why isn’t he??? Mine has the attention span of, well, a 4 yr. old human!

So, whilst I’m tidying up the domestic abode before launching off on the Road Trip to Horse Show Hell with my sister (yes, she has her cap!) and the Spotted Wonder Mare and my Hambone/Hambolarama/Hambola Virus, let me say that I shall return and find my BB friends and co-horts on whichever thread they may be residing.

I’m certain there are multiple topics with which we Californians can entertain the masses, Mare Winningham included!

I’m not sure I understand. Most of the time the thread has been horse related and if we close the thread and we open a new one the same 10-12 people will continue to post and we will continue to discuss a variety of things like we have been doing. Sooooo what am I missing here? Wasn’t Off Course started for that purpose

How would we know that there was an informative “tidbit” to search for?

…said “I wish they all could be California Girls.” It’s a state of mind, not just a state.

BTW Erin, when I tried to close the “Question for Merry” thread, I couldn’t and had to have a moderator do it for me.

Goodness, y’all are acting like you’ve been cast in a movie of the week starring Mare Winningham as the mother of a brood of 15 children, who are about to be separated cause mama can’t feed the kids anymore.

I think the point of the request was to encourage all you wonderful Californians to spread the joy to other threads - rather than secluding your wit, experiences and observations in a catch-all thread.

Bumpkin -

Are all cliques gone?

What about when I want to ask the Texas clique if they’re going to a certain show? I don’t talk to any of these Texas clique people, other than Langshaw, Spaz, and CTT, off the boards. I don’t even KNOW their E-mail addresses (sorry).

I think Erin is worried about you guys getting “cliquey” (as in the petty, high school sense of the word).

Erin you can’t close it! I am from NH and I read that thread faithfully! It felt like an accomplishment to plow through the first 30 pages that I missed, and now I check it obsessively

Ummmm Erin, isn’t that what happened with several other threads for ohhhhh, how long? Guess I don’t get it either. We play and invite all to our fluff. There are way many more who are segmented thru out this BB. How come us?

Because this is not my forum, I don’t read every thread on it. I enjoy the Californians, but, my time is limited, and I find that I have ended up ignoring the long thread, because I don’t have time to play catch up and I feel lost coming in on the middle. Same thing happened, by the way, with the other long threads.

I’d love it if our mellow and loveable West Coasters (I’ll exclude Beezer right now, from the mellow part, but, those are extenuating circumstances – any cap yet Beez?) made themselves a little more accessible to those like me. You guys have a distinct way about you that is definately of value to this forum.

And, Coreene, I think you’re right, an originating poster can’t delete a thread since Infopop took over, if there are any responses. But, the thread could die from neglect. I don’t think that Erin wants to cut you off by arbitrarily closing the thread, but that she would like it to be done with your agreement.

Sigh, moderator cap goes back on.

I like the CA clique best…

Because like most of us, most of them know each other only through the BB.

The occupied mostly by those who know each other in ‘real life’ are much more likely to make others feel excluded.

However, I do see the point of some people missing out. I live for updates on the Hambola Virus and his lovely chesnut ‘bro’
(BTW - WE WANT PICTURES OF HAMMIE AND TIGGER!!!)

Sorry, just noticed that.

Why not do a poll? I don’t know how to set one up, but it seems a pretty rational thing to do.

I don’t think that the CA clique is only playing in their corner, ther are out and about alll over the board!

“Chaos is what killed the dinosaurs, Darling!” JD;Heathers

Exactly what ETBW said.

Why only share your show successes with CA people? Why only share your pictures with CA people? Didn’t I read some news on the thread about some notable horse person passing away? Wouldn’t others like to know about that, without having to read 59 pages of other stuff?

You can still talk about the exact same things, if they’re horse related. I’m just asking you to break them up so that other people can read and talk about them too.

Also, I want to cut down on the non-horse related stuff, and it’s too hard for the moderators to do that when it’s buried in a huge thread like that.

Oh, she’s gotta talk to the Suavester then. It’s SuaveReno’s.

I have only met Dublin, and just briefly, as I purchased her sisters Hermes last year in a Holiday Inn parking lot at the airport!!!
hahaha
She is coming up for a visit in a few weeks though.
Oh wait I did meet Splendid a few months ago for a Saturday of showing her some stables in the area in case her husband got a job at Microsoft.
We all have met on the GREAT BB!!
