Old Carriage Blanket

Does anyone know about old carriage blankets? I have an old horse hair carriage blanket. Black and faded in areas and there is a label “Chase” on it. Pretty big. Just wondering about it.

Depends on the condition of the blanket what it might be worth. Fading, fraying, holes will affect the value greatly. Some designs are more desired, like animals with glass eyes. Some folks collect them, others get them to actually use them with their sleighs. Chase label might make it desirable, they are a good brand. They do need to be protected from moths in warm weather.

Thank you. So you know that brand? This has been protected from moths but does have fading. It is not a blanket I would want to use on a bed. Rough.

Lots of Chase lap robes around. Nice quality to them, well cared for, they are still with us all these years later! Not sure why they are “rough” unless it added to the density for warmth. They are not lightweight. Rough might also shed snow better than a smoother weave, lIke guard hairs on horses… I know that if I was cold back in days before central heating, I sure would choose a heavy blanket, rough or not! Folks wore thick night clothing in those cold bedrooms, so probably never noticed the rough woven blankets of any kind.
