Old left hind injury on OTTB?

Hi all. I might be receiving this horse as an event prospect. 7yo OTTB with 6 starts, his last two starts in 2021 he placed 2nd. Prior to that he had some 4th-7th finishes.

Current owner bought him sound and supposedly with no prior injuries from a vet school’s treadmill program. There is SOMETHING here in his leg though. Anyone have ideas on what before my vet x-rays?

Looks like my ottbs back leg. He was stepped on voming out of the starting gate. It was just a nasty cut over the bone. No problems.

With no context I’d guess this is from getting stuck in a paddock gate. I’ve seen a couple of them, including in my own filly. Her scar and bump looks similar.

You’re probably curious as to what occurred with that leg, but even if someone in the know told you exactly what happened, I’d still ask the PPE vet’s opinion about it. It’s probably a healed injury with scar tissue, but an x-ray, flexion and/or US would give you peace of mind.

Very true! I’m curious to see what the x-rays will look like this week

I appreciate everyone’s input!

Looks cosmetic, like an old bow (but it’s not). What happened to the inside of fetlock? Blood looks fairly fresh. Is his leg cold?
