Old mare took a spill (minor cuts)

My 28 year old mare took a spill coming out of her stall. She’s never been very good about being stalled. Kicks the stall wall and gets impatient. She came out of her stall in a rush and tripped and went down on the dirt aisle. She is fine except for some surface cuts and abrasions on her front leg and minor swelling. Took off about a quarter sized piece of skin, minor bleeding, no puncture wound. In a healthier horse I would not worry at all over such a minor scratch.

However, she had some small scrapes on her leg before and it turned into a major battle with proud flesh. Hoping to avoid that again. Any suggestions on what I can put on it?

I hosed it off, and flushed it with Chlorhexidine. Looks fine.

I use Debrisol. It is a spray. It does not need bandaging. It sloughs proud flesh and promotes healthy healing. I spray a purple antiseptic spray over the top to stop flies.

Gentian violet and Underwoods proud flesh treatment.
