Old Win Photos - early 80s

A boarder just had to put her old man down and I would love to find an old win photo to give her. My biggest problem, the horse raced from 1980-1983, I can’t pull up actual race results to see where he won. I know that he did win though. His name is Gotitmade, 1977 chestnut.
Any help that anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated!

That could be a tough one. For one, you’re dealing with an era when it was all film, and therefore all negatives. Add to that, the photographer in question, IF he/she is still alive, may or may not have the negatives now.
I went through that myself, for the same period.
There are American Turf books (I think was the name) that came out every year. They listed all winners in races all over the country, large and small. I know the library at Keeneland race course has a set. I don’t know if you can call them and pay for a search or not. If you are close enough to go there, it can make for a fascinating afternoon read.
Then maybe you will get lucky once you have found some specific tracks, dates and races and can contact the track and see if by chance the same group still does the win pictures or not.
Good luck with it.

What you can try if the tracks dont have the photos is try and contact former owners, trainers or jockey’s… Usually they will have old win pics in a pile somewhere and would send you a copy!

Sorry for your friends horse, but I’m betting that he had a great life with her. Good luck on your search!

These are the tracks where he raced:

Waterford Park (now Mountaineer)
Latonia (now Turfway Park)
Ellis Park
Thistledown
Churchill Downs
Beulah Park
River Downs
Keeneland
Oaklawn Park

His last maiden race was Beulah Park 10/10/80 Race 5 so that might be a place to start, as he probably won that one.

They are called the American Racing Manual.
Maybe you can score one for a year when he was running. It would give you specific dates and tracks.

Droooooooooooll

If I won the mega millions, I’d pay to have all that digitised and made available to the public online.

If you ever get to spend some time at Keeneland, make sure you spend some of that time in the library.

I got to do that a few years back and it was awesome. I researched my old guy, went back through the years we were together. So very, very cool. I could get lost in that place. Keeneland is a magnificent place.
