Oldenburg for Dummies?!

You may get no response with the OP being 8 years old. Trying a PM might get their attention, especially if they never see this post has come back to llife.

Word of encouragement. My mare got a horrendous belly wound through one of those twists of fate. She healed up beautifully but was very jumpy and nervous. I asked my vet if she would calm down and he said he thought so, so true to his word she became the best of saddlehorses through patience and kindness. We could not even get a hose near her until one day we just said, “That’s it, you have had time, now time for you to come through.” And she did and was fine ever after.

Hang in with her OP. My mare is Oldenburg N/A which is why I clicked.

If she hasn’t gotten her in better shape in 8 years it’s probably not going to happen. I assume she recovered fine and the OP went on with their lives but who knows?

The easiest way to give Sim a needle i the end after bending a needle 90 degrees was to stick his head in a small bowl of pellets. He is very food oriented. You have to remove the bowl when told by the vet if sedating.

Missed the 8 year part…

Oldenburgs are beautiful animals! The German Warmblood breeds (Holsteiner, Oldenburg, etc) that I’ve encountered are absolute units. A lot of them seem like such gentle giants though, 10/10 want a giant pony boi for myself (probs 17.3 at most though, heights are rough for me

This is Tony, a 6 year old 19 hand Oldenburg I was lucky enough to ride a few years ago.
