Not that it really matters but I feel like I should add that the decision to euthanize vs. removing all her teeth was made at the time of diagnosis but the timing of the euthanasia was left up to the mare. We decided we would wait until the time came when she seemed uncomfortable eating and started dropping weight but in the end it was a severe choke most likely caused by her inadequate chewing that necessitated euthanasia. Obviously if she didn’t have EROTH we would have attempted to clear the choke. I still feel like we made the right decision at every step of the way with her best interest in the front of our minds.

That’s a good clarification. I have a horse in exactly this situation on my farm right now. He’s 28 or 29, and if/when he starts showing signs of pain/dropping weight he will also be put down. It’s been 6 months since his diagnosis, and so far, so good.
