Olympic Team Show Jumping Concludes Wednesday, August 17

What a fantastic result. So sad for Beezie and Tiny that they couldn’t participate today, but they were such a huge contributor to us getting to this point. Congrats to McLain, Kent, and Lucy, and I can’t wait to watch Individual finals on Friday!!!

Great ride for Lamaze!!

WOW, Eric- there’s some amazing mares in this comp!

Eric… what can we say!! no rail all week…

maybe a jump off for Bronze depending on Germany’s results as Brazil had a rail.

No rails all week? I hate him.

The announcers just pointed out that the defending champs from London in dressage and eventing have retained their titles. Golly gumdrops, it would be a turn-up if Steve Guerdat did as well.
P.S. Holy crepe Azur. Flawless.
P.P.S. How exciting to have two championships in a row (this and the World Cup) with absolutely brilliant course design. Santiago Varela worked on both, this time as assistant to Guilherme Jorge

And Ludger Beerbaum gives a master class in riding for a double clear, forcing a jump off for bronze.

I can’t say I wasn’t sort of hoping for a rail. Or at least a time fault!

The tension is killing me!

JUMP OFF for Bronze!!!

same here… Go Eric!!
all riders come back? oh man!!

how many ride for each country in the jump off?

all riders come back! and three scores count!

I think the jump off should be a puissance, and the team of the last rider standing should win.

That would make them just a bit tired for the individual competition on Friday!

Man! This should be a great jump-off!

Friday will also be AWESOME. I’m so glad we have three strong riders going in!

Also, GO USA!

“The tactics are leave all the fences up and go faster than your opponents” - gotta love the British commentators!

Ehhhh puissance horses are often very different from their regular jumper counterparts. A lot of top riders will have a horse specifically for puissance/six-bar classes, usually a horse with a lot of scope but might be slow and can’t get under the time allowed or whatever. You’ll see this a lot at the Masters, riders will use a different horse in the six-bar on Friday to qualify for bigger competitions on their “Sunday horse”.

Exciting battle for Bronze!

A terrific course, and some amazing jumping. And of course a great result for the USA… what a treat!

is MMB not going to walk the course?

All of these horses deserve a medal. What a grueling week for them. Good luck Canada!
