Omega-3 Supplement for Dogs

My vet suggested that we start my dogs on a fish oil/omega-3 supplement. Two are 65 lbs, one is 85 lbs. She recommended between 2000-3000 mg.

With all of the options out there, am hoping for some suggestions for a supplement that is a good balance of quality and economy.

I gave my dogs the human gel caps and just tossed them in the bowl with their food. They scarfed them down no problem

There are so many types of oils! I do like to change the ones I feed my girl and currently I’m feeding 20ml of W3 oil to her as I have it for my ponies right now. And she loves the taste so I use it to paste some of her supplements which she is not a fan of.

But I do like fish oils and have feed herring oil (it does not need to be refrigerated after opening so a bonus) which is about $30 for 1000ml. I have fed salmon oil as well, but it does need to go in the fridge after opening, not a huge deal though.

I have also switched it up with hemp seed oil, and rotate after every 1,000ml. I purchase the 3 above from Big Country Raw as I get 15% off:

I use the Nordic Naturals liquid. For my 60 pound dog I give 1 tsp on her food AM and PM. My vet said just to make sure it’s fish oil as opposed to the vegetarian O3 options that may be out there.

I like the Fera one. Both dogs like it a lot and I like the added Vit E. I remember reading (but don’t remember where) that they need Vit E to synthesize the O3 so having an O3 with it added in helps their bodies use it (that’s a terrible explanation). Easy to feed with a pump and easily fits in my fridge. Not super expensive either.

I just use the human gel caps. My dog thinks they’re treats.

I’m in Canada, but these are the ones that I feed. She’s 10yo, 65lbs and I give her three per day, I’ve been doing this for a few years now.
Three per day works out to 4275 mg of fish oil, 2700 mg EPA/DHA.

I fed my guy Welactin for years. They smelled super weird (minty fish anyone lol?) but he never had any trouble eating them

I use either this or the Kirkland brand… whichever is on sale at Costco when I’m looking.
We do two capsules a day (morning and night) per the vet’s recommendations.
