Do you feed it? How much?
I’m thinking of using this as a base for my guys vitamins as it is high in fat, instead of adding oil to a handful of regular low-starch grain (it takes me forever to go through a bag at that rate!)
Thanks!

I used to feed around a pound a day to my TB. It didn’t do much.
However, my friend fed the same amount to her horse and it helped him out.
My guy is a harder keeper, though.
We used it for Paco for a bit and I liked how easy it was to feed. It did put some weight on him but the cost pretty steep. He should eat limited grain so we went with Canola oil and alfalfa and the pounds started pouring on. I do keep some on hand though…it is excellent for the horse who doesn’t like oil!
Thanks for the replies. My guys are easy easy keepers - free choice hay plus vitamins, plus I like to give them some oil, especially the draft X so I was hoping this could replace both the oil and handful of grain I give to mix the sups with and simplify things!!!
It is definitely a good choice for simplifying your life! Now that Paco is back to his old self we have been thinking of using it again for the ease of it now that he only needs about a pound a day.
Omegatin has around 1800 calories per pound at about $1 per pound. Canola is about 1900 per 1/2 pound and around .66 per pound (for a 1-1/2 gallon jug).
IIRC, Omegatin is a complete feed too? IT has yucca, biotin and flax as well.
I did read that it was a complete feed - thank you for all your advice! I read on another forum that although it is expensive, some do feed it in larger quantities and I picked up a bucket yesterday and it says that it can be fed at higher rations (I forget how much).
I’ll never need to feed more than 1/2 a pound a day, I only need it to mix supplements with, but like I said if I can feed that instead of the little bit of oil, it will really make things simpler!
We have a farmers co-op store where I buy my grain and Omegatin. The Omegatin comes in a 40 lb. bag for $26.50 - I also had to stop at TSC for the hubby and checked their prices. I almost had a heart attack - 20 lb. bucket for $24.99! If there is a Blue Seal dealer in your area, you might want to check pricing.
I use it as a carrier for supplements as my picky mare loves it. She turns her nose up at just about any other low starch feed.

Oooh good tip!!! We did buy the bucket from TSC - but there is also a Blue Seal right down the road so now that I know it’s a good idea (they gobble it up too!) I’ll get the bag there. Thanks!
I agree with the Blue Seal Dealer, I pay ~$25 for a 40 lb. bag that lasts for a month. I did the same  last time I was in TSC and glanced at the price.
I feed 2 cups per feeding to my hard keeper with his 1.5 qts Hunter and 1.5 qts Carb Guard. I wanted to add the fat, but because I set up his feed in baggies oil wouldn’t work (boarding barn - need to keep it easy). He came out of winter looking good and he actually put some weight on.

I have a 31 year old that who is off feed. She is a hard keeper. She did fine on tc senior for years but not eating it now. I need something low sugar and starch(laminitis and Cushings) and she eats slowly so it can’t be a large quantity. I picked up dentist el ls then realized she would need 11 lbs a day to maintain. Now thinking about omegatin.
Sentinel ls
Sentinel LS + Omegatin = amazing
TSC is a complete RIP OFF especially for the Omegatin
