Omeprazole in Canada

Hi everyone,

My apologies if this has been asked before. I’ve been looking for omeprazole for my horse, but unfortunately Abler does not ship their pop rocks to Canada. Does anyone located in Canada know of anywhere omeprazole can be purchased online? This is a horse I’ve had for years and has had ulcers before, and based on his symptoms I am confident he would benefit from treatment.

Of course I will get a prescription from the vet, but I’m interested to see if anyone else knows of other alternative purchasing options?

Thanks!

Gastrogard is the most effective however you can try omeprazole from summit I am not sure how well it works for healing ulcers but it does make a difference. I once treated my horse with this product but had to go for 2 months but he looked fabulous after that. I also know horses that are on a low-dose long time and do very well.

However a lot of people are trying Nexium and there is some good data on it . Which you can order on Amazon.com. It’s a little more expensive because it’s priced in USD but it is still a good price. Some sellers will ship internationally. There are some small studies to support it’s effectiveness.

If you go with omeprazole give it in the morning an hour before breakfast as it is much better absorbed after a brief period of fasting.https://thehorse.com/19252/impact-of…zole-efficacy/

Abler does ship to Canada!
I have had a couple of pop-rock orders arrive no problem; it may just take a little extra time to get here- mostly due to Canada Post, but with no complications or extra fees even.

That may change though. I used to buy ulcergard on amazon.ca because customs rarely truly checks what the parcel they just slap duty on it and let it through. However custom checks are random and once they actually checked mine and it took three months before I got a letter in the mail saying this could not be shipped because omepazole requires a prescription in Canada. I got a refund three months sooner. Previously I had no problem buying ulcergard through amazon. Now amazon.ca no longer sells omepazole :frowning: It sucks!

Abler does not even come from the States, though, like Ulcerguard, so the customs requirements are different coming from - Vanuatu, I think.
@Fharoah as an aside for you, my vet sells me Gastroguard for the same price as I could order Ulcerguard and have someone bring it back over the border for me. (I did a happy dance when I discovered that! )

Wouldn’t Pop Rocks still have to clear customs though? I found the most cost efficient was if you get a prescription was Pets Smart in Ontario it works out to $38 a tube Canadian which is cheeper than I paid in the states. I do buy Gastrogard from my vets though.

Huh. I tried to order from them and was given an error message that they don’t ship to Canada. And couldn’t find Canada in the list of countries that they ship to when I checked after.

I’m in Ontario and used to get compounded omeprazole from my Vet
