OMG Craigslist has snake-for-sale horrors, too *UPDATE #46: Yeah, I took her home :D

I’m jonesing for a snake update.[/QUOTE]
You have good timing. I fed her yesterday.

Rudy, you know, teaching math for as many years as I have and encouraging students to think through how to solve real-world problems like this made made me forget about zeroing the scale with the container on it. It feels a bit like cheating, heh! But, makes more sense especially for photographic purposes, so here she is weighing in on a zeroed-with-container scale. She is so bony and light…ack.

I offered her her first meal, a hairless fuzzy (they were on sale this summer, so I bought 100 of them :o ), which seemed so ridiculously small for this girl. But I don’t want to put her system into shock, so that’s what I gave her.

As I suspected, her appetite proved not to be her issue at all. She ate almost immediately, and despite always having live before, did not hesitate with her first frozen/thawed offering.

Here she is first getting a hold of it. Look! I’ve put 6g on her already!

Swallowing it down–the mouse is just past her head.

All done and looking for more. Broke my heart how big a lump that little mouse made on her skinny frame. My son’s yearling, whose head is less than half this girl’s head size, has almost an identically sized lump from eating the same sized mouse yesterday. It’s just wrong.

I wish I could offer her more right now, but recognize I need to take it easy. I’m planning on feeding her every Monday.

I brought one of my other foster snakes (Sunrise) back to the pet store that loaned him to me the other day, and while I was there, I picked up an under tank heater for her (as well as a rat for my python). Even though the UTH was marked $26.99 and the rat is $2.99, the grateful store owner sold it all to me for a flat $20.

By the way, I’m torn between two names for her, both reflecting her emaciated state: Hollywood (Holly for short) and Runway (making her my project Runway, ha!). Anyway, Hollywood Runway is currently content in her hide over her new UTH, happily digesting that mouse meal.

Poor snake. I skimmed thru the thread and didn’t see it asked and I’m curious, so here goes: Is this a case of the previous owner not feeding her, or not feeding her enough? Sorry if it’s been asked already, but I know nothing about snakes and I am curious.

Good luck with her!!

I love the name Project Runway. You could call her Annie (for anorexic).

That’s terrific that she has an appetite! Poor Hollywood Runway. At least she’s in good hands now, and you are the proud new owner of another beautiful snakie!
