Omg, just accidently double-dosed my weanling with Equimax…

Tell me this is going to be Ok please! I thought I had it in the notch for his weight, but it wasn’t latched and I have such PTSD from worming his mom who was awful about it, I quickly pushed the plunger when I got it in his mouth. Of course he stood like a rock and it all went in, he didn’t even object after. Sorry buddy.

He’s a big guy, around 14 hands now. Dr. Google seems to say it’s not horrible? But I am not happy with myself and paranoid! He has been wormed before with fenbendazole.

If he’s like my 23yo 13h pony, he’ll live.
I did the Exact Same Thing about a week ago.

I split a tube between him & my 34" mini.
Pony was done 1st, because he’s a total Asshat to worm
He got the full dose :persevere:
Then I shortchanged the 16h horse by the 250# I guesstimate mini weighs.

The package insert states

Equimax® Paste may be used in horses 4 weeks of age and older. Stallions and breeding, pregnant or lactating mares may be treated without adverse effects on fertility. In a tolerance study in which 3- to 4-week-old foals were treated at 10X once, loose watery stools were observed on post-treatment days 1, 2, and 5-9 in one foal. These signs resolved without treatment by day 10, and no other foals were affected.

Thank you both. I am paranoid and will get up at midnight to check him for colic signs, but am calming down.

I literally tried moving the latch device around a few times because it didn’t feel like it clicked in at first, but then it felt solid. I feel so bad for letting this happen.

It will be fine. My kid gave my 12.2 pony an entire tube and he is still here to tell the tale. No issues after either. Vet just laughed about his next fecal was going to clear.

I have an Arab that lives w me. He’s small- same exact thing happened. I had the same reaction you did. He never batted an eye. It’s just so darn hard sometimes.:grinning:

Oh your weanling will need some extra cookies to make up for the injustice. Been there, done that before!

I had the same thing happen to me more than once when the stopper isn’t properly locked into place. One of the “scariest” was with Quest and my small donkey. She was fine.

I wouldn’t worry that much about Equimax.

Bless, LOL. Yeah, I did that to my first ever weanling. I was so proud of how good he was being for his first deworming, I accidentally shot the entire tube of Ivermectin into his mouth. Oops! He lived a long life with no consequences from the mistake. You’re fine.
