OMG. So Much FUN! Foxhunting 101. Newbie!

I went to foxhunting 101 this past Saturday. I have to say what a BLAST! I have always thought foxhunting looked fun and can not wait until this Saturday for 102.

I rode 2nd flight practicing with the group. My pony got a little excited cantering. He was having to work to keep up with the big guys and then first flight went by he thought joining that speed would be fun! I moved to 3rd flight when they released the hounds and did a mock hunt. Back there he was doing a very slow canter to keep up (more because he wanted to slow canter than fast trot!). It was beautiful watching the hounds work and the horses galloping.

Also everyone was so friendly, nice and helpful.

If you ever wanted to try it go for it! To those that already do thank you for allowing the newbies a opportunity to learn and for your sportsmanship and horsemanship.

So glad you had a great day!!

Hope you have another great adventure at foxhunting 102.

It’s so great that you have a club nearby that offers such an amazing opportunity to try it out.

Keep us posted!!

Woo hoo!!! Glad you had fun, and that your pony did, too!!

Let us know how Foxhunting 102 goes. We’re all ears!

DITTO!

I am going on a Hunter Pace in January to get a feel for it, hopefully soon thereafter Hilltopping with the Hunt
I cannot wait!

Better go ahead and start having a few $$ withheld with each paycheck 'cuz your gonna want to join the hunt. Give in now, it’s a joke to try and deny it!!

Yup.

Great!! I need to clean out the attic and shed - sell some stuff on Ebay. LOL. I would love to join but hopefully the pony is going to the trainers this winter for a few months to work on jumping. I am already thinking next year, then I can save my $ plus jump stuff when I hunt!!

Were you by chance out with the Tryon Hounds? As a Pony Club kid living in Anderson, SC back in the '70’s we use to hunt with them. Great memories and fun times.

Ohhh - Good for you!

It sounds like you had a great first time out. I have to agree, resisting is futile! It’s an addiction there is no cure for, once afflicted there’s no turning back!

Keep us up to date. Don’t forget, many of us go Second Flight or Hilltop. There’s no need to get out there over fences right away. Often, Second and Third Flights will see just as much hound work as First Flight will!

Good luck to you and your spunky pony!

Hunting is calling your name

You can hunt this year without jumping. You would want to take it slow the first year anyway to give both you and your horse a chance to learn the game.

Bwaaa-Haaa-haaa! :D:lol:

Crap, I thought the nose-mitten hid that!

The nose-mitten hid it just fine, the giveaway was the breeches on fire

Yabbut that wasn’t cause I was lying. That was because I was watching Robert Downey Jr and imagining him as one of those butlers mentioned elsewhere. :: considers :: I think he’d look good in breeches and boots—erm, I mean, foxhunting (hehehehe, see how smoothly I got back on topic?).

102 was a blast too. Need more bit when galloping in a group but besides that a fantastic time.
Pics from 101 since I just had to share
Oh and this was with Mecklenburg Hounds. They were awesome to a newbie. Tryon I am going to retire to in about 50 years  Love it there.
