On-line / Internet Dating!

Wow - this topic is WWWAAAAYYY off course…

OK girls and guys - my nutty friends have taken the initiative to get me “back on the market.” Effective today, April 19th, I am an officially divorced 29 year old woman. (Big old scarlet D on my chest now!)

So I get an email this am stating that I have been given a one month membership to an online dating service. HOW SAD IS THAT??? I’m not sure if I should be happy, horrified, or what… Do they picture me as needing something like this? Bear in mind, they’re a pretty sick bunch - hehe

So fess up - has anyone ever done this? Any stories to share?

Most of the women who participate in the sport are, demographically, well-educated and financially and emotionally independent (not to mention charming, smart, and well-monogrammed) - i.e. most of us possess the traits that men claim to desire.

Canter, I think you should approach some of the more prominent dating services in Ontario for TOC. And to maximize marketing value, perhaps a horse show cocktail party can be held in the VIP tent. I know many women, excluding myself, who’d attend to meet some eligible bachelors.

Tall thin blond seeks out:

Tall, well muscled, brown haired male…preferably of German decent. Must enjoy long trail rides through the mountains, eating alfalfa, and weekends at such venues as The Oaks, Devon, and Palm Beach. Gelded status not an issue. Those incapable of flying lead changes need not respond.

Congratulations on your “escape”. My favorite quote about marriage is “Marriage is a fine institution,…if you like living in an institution.”

Seriously, think of all the free time you will have to ride and bond with all those barn mates. Are your horse activities a good escape for you?

I don’t think “internet romance” is a very safe avenue. Maybe for entertainment purposes, but nothing serious.

And for the record I am married and I do like where I am, but I have also been in the scarlet “D” position as well. I hope you are where you want to be.

Heidi - is your Mother available? From the sounds of it she might be a one woman matchmaker/dating service herself. Seriously, that’s a fantastic idea. There really are never enough single men at horse shows. Heck, there are never any, really.

Oops - Chef now that’s one to look out for!!

My best friend has done it. She’s met several very nice, highly educated, professional men through the service - 4 or 5 of them have actually been riders! Choose the service carefully. Unfortunately, the expensive ones seem to be the best.

LOLOLOL Chef!!

I’ve often thought that show organizers should approach the dating services for sponsorship. Either that or arrange a field trip of eligible, wonderful, sane men to horse shows - where most of the competitors are women who lack the time/interest to hang around in single’s bars.

Have yall ever seen that movie… I think its called “The Web?” Where this guy lures “girlfriends” off the internet and sews them into spiderwebs and sews their mouths and eyes and stuff shut?? Not very realistic I dont guess… but enough to keep me out of doing that! No thanks.

Excellent idea Heidi. I’ve often thought that was an “untapped market”.

Chef - you are too funny! And, you KNOW how I like those foreign men! Although now I love Gracie - does that make me gay? She’s 1/2 German!

Anthem - I may just go for Larry himself - he HAS been known to womanize! Perhaps Oracle would sponsor a horse for me if I was his love slave? hehe

I have a great boyfriend at the moment. But his father met his girlfriend of over a year on the net and they are a horsecrazy couple that spend lots of time with each other and their horses! I also have a friend who’s Dad met his new wife on the net-they’ve been married for over a year. I know someone else who went through the paper personals and met her husband–they’ve been married for a number of years and have 2 kids together.

I’m here to say it does work!!! Met my guy on the net and call it luck or fate or just plain good karma but I couldn’t be happier. We took it real slow and anonymous for quite some time then went to emailing on our own (without the dating service “handle” names). Eventually we talked on the phone and finally met in person. Yes, you have to be REAL CAREFUL but I had no problem weeding out the freaky ones. Previous to meeting my current S.O. I met a few other really nice guys. I would suggest being careful as number one. Stress honesty and respect and see where it goes. Do not meet in person unless you are with a friend or on your home turf in public. Good luck and NO you can’t have my terrific guy!!!

I agree - excellent idea Heidi - and good save for making the thread “Horsey.”

Couldn’t think of a better place to be single!!
