Anyone else see that George Strawbridge Jr. (Augustin Stables) is there with the friends of Mrs. Wyeth and Union Rags? I believe they are neighbors in the greater DE/PA Brandywine Region
I’ll Have Another, please!
Anyone notice on NBC’s final order of finish that Daddy Long Legs and Take Charge Indy were tagged with “DIS”? What does that mean? I cannot think its disqualified. Should have read “DNF”?
My wife and I hit the extacta albeit we combined our bet and had 9-horses in a $1 boxed exacta for $72, but received $150 or so
Edited because I just learned something new… DIS = Distanced!

REBOARD alert, REDBOARD alert!!

WTF happened and why was there NO coverage of the Inquiry and disqualification of 2 horses? And who was eased?
Yeah, can someone give me an update? I’m over here in the UK and was able to stream the race on NBC but can’t find a live stream for NBC Sports Network/the post-race show.
I believe it was Take Charge Indy who was eased. Not sure about the other 2
I think Daddy Long Legs was the other one.

Can anyone analyze the start? Was there contact between Union Rags and Take Charge Indy? Looked pretty rough there to me but I don’t watch a lot of races so have no basis for comparison. So disappointed for Mrs. Wyeth.

UR had a terrible trip. He was my pick and it was disappointing because he finished moving like a freight train.

Yeah, he sure was making up ground. Do you think they’ll run him at Pimlico, or skip in favor of Belmont?
Ok, I admit I’m an eventer (and therefore Union Rags looked fantastic to me pre-race: great sport horse type), but I have to ask if his jock was ummmm… not up to the strategic challenge of the Derby. I know NOTHING about big time racing, mind you. Just asking a neophyte question.
Anyone interested in educating me?
Sorry? What on earth for?

So disappointed for Mrs. Wyeth.
Mrs. Wyeth has lead quite the extroidinary life!
Besides being married into the iconic Wyeth family; she has been forever immortalised in some of her devoted husband’s paintings. I especially remember those of her carriage driving her Welsh ponies. (She thoroughly enjoyed competing in the sport at one time.) http://www.brucevanpatter.com/bvp_images/adv_in_grace_images/11-29-04-jwy_gorge.jpg
Amongst other things, she also lead a life hob nobbing upon Government Hill, to include having dinners with Senator John Warner & his then wife Elisabeth Taylor at the White House.
No tears need be shed for her. She has had the great priveledge to live very well indeed, & amongst those that cherish her.
Yes, she is getting older now, though aren’t we all.
Union Rags (not my pick; even if he were I wouldn’t have bet him since it’s not worth it at 9/2) just got caught napping in the gate and then had a lousy trip. With 20 horses (HUGE field for most of them) there’s not a lot of places you can go in traffic. I don’t think it was the rider. Just wasn’t the horse’s day.
My two picks came up short of gas. But our local boy at Hastings Park won!
Union Rags is still a very talented horse, but at some point you have to stop making excuses for him. He seems to always find a way to compromise himself, not the mark of a great horse.
Bodemeister was probably even more impressive today than at Oaklawn. That was some scintillating performance to go out that fast and almost hang on. You have to wonder if Trinnberg wasn’t in the race would he have maybe saved just enough for the stretch run. Still an awful lot of horse there. Will take a lot of beating in races like the Haskill, Jim Dandy, Woodward etc.
I’ll Have Another. In any other year would have a legit shot at the TC. Has plenty of stamina in his pedigree. But you have to wonder if this crop is just too deep and too many treats from too many directions over the next 5 weeks.
Was impressed with finishes of Dullahan and Went the Day. Well. Would love to see both of them try the lawn at some point, think they could both be serious turf horses.
Hansen, will probably waste much of the season tackling races beyond his reach. Connections should take note of Shackleford’s win today. I’ve said it before, if he were mine, his future would include shots at the Kings Bishop, Kelso, Dirt Mile etc.
Daddy Long Legs is obviously not a dirt horse, at least not Churchill dirt. Has flopped twice there now.
Glimmer, thanks for getting us to this day. Looking forward to next years thread.
Congratulations to I’ll Have Another, but I was tremendously impressed with Bodemeister. Already looking forward to going in person again to next year’s Arkansas Derby.
