On to the Belmont 2018 - who's bandwagon are you on? post KD and Preakness

Holy crap. Idiots.

Maybe we should make a drinking game out of this.

It’s interesting to read Steve Haskins Top Ten. (I happen to agree with him about Justify  )

Starting on page 9 http://cdn.bloodhorse.com/daily-app/pdfs/BloodHorseDaily-20180411.pdf

Good for Tiznow, winning it twice at both 3 and 4.

And just look at all those 5 year olds.

This thread just keeps giving me new reasons to hate CDI. The dumb @sses can’t even tell the difference between their own marquee race and the Breeders Cup.

Oh for god’s sake. Zenyatta won the derby when she was 5 years old?

That page is a stunning example of incompetence in TB racing “journalism”.

It is unsurpassed (in my memory) in its complete disregard for the subject matter. It now stands as a shining beacon of careless ignorance, that schools of Journalism can use as an example of What-Not-To-Do for years to come.

LaurieB, I really enjoyed watching Justify win the Santa Anita. The race was his from the beginning. Mike Smith gave him a great ride- standing up just letting him romp along in first place until the last turn. Then all Smith did was take hold and sit down on his stirrups. Justify shifted gears to win the race! Yay! I really like him and look forward to seeing him win the Kentucky Derby.

Frosty M, today you have the Arkansas Derby with Magnum Moon, Solomon and Quip along with the Lexington Stakes with Greyvitos and My Boy Jack. The last of the KD prep races with points toward the Derby.

Still like Mendelssohn and Justify but for me PP may change my opinion (as well as maybe track condition).

Thanks for the update. Do you know who won the Ark. Derby?

Arkansas Derby was Magnum Moon with Quip a good second. Leaves Magnum Moon unbeaten in 4 starts who was unraced until January of this year. What I didn’t like was his stretch run… good but really drifted out into almost the center of the track. He was far enough in front so interference wasn’t an issue but in a crowded field, might present a bit of a problem. Solomini was a close third.

Runaway Ghost out of the KD with a shin issue.

My Boy Jack won the Lexington Stakes (the other KD points qualifier today).

My Boy Jack definitely has a come from behind style and I’m not sure how well that will be served in a crowded field. PP will probably be a deciding factor.

I was at Oaklawn yesterday. Magnum Moon looked very good in the paddock. The race bugged me in the stretch, though. He was on the rail at the head of the stretch and really drifted right. Whether inexperience or tiredness, it didn’t bode well for a longer race with more traffic.

Whitmore nearly gave the fans a heart attack in the Count Fleet. Dead last top of the stretch and still got there. I like Whitmore, but he does leave it to the last seconds.

Oddest moment of the day came after one of the earlier races, and I wish I could find some followup on it, but I can’t. Sluicebox fell shortly after the wire. He was flat out and motionless on the ground for several minutes; both the guy next to me and I thought he was dead. He was that still. We were wondering about a ruptured aorta or something. Then finally, after several minutes, he started to move. They encouraged him, and he got up. Didn’t look lame to me. He walked around, then loaded up, and the horse ambulance took him away. Couldn’t have been heat exhaustion; the temp was in the 50s with a bit of a wind. Everyone cheered when he stood up. The track, of course, gave no mention of this or followup on it, even though it was happening right there in view of the grandstand. They were just going on with results of the race as usual. Does anybody know what happened to him? Has anyone known a horse to just pass out after a race? He definitely looked unconscious for a good part of that - not struggling at all, just flat out. Fortunately, the jockey wasn’t hurt, and no other horses got tangled up with him. This was shortly after the wire and pretty close to the rail, while the race was starting to pull up, so not out in the clear from everyone.

Argh

This is the only thing I’ve been able to find.

Sorry. Late to the party. Re: the Kentucky Derby site issues.

Just don’t understand why we’d be concerned that the BC Classic winners aren’t the same as the Kentucky Derby winners.

Po-tay-to. Po-tah-to.

Just watched the Arkansas Derby replay.
It looked like the sun was on the track and they were going into the shade just as Magnum Moon came around the corner, and he had just changed to the right lead the second he was in the straightaway.
Then as he was straight near the wire, he even seemed to accelerate again.

Yup. Why fixate on details? No one really pays attention, right?
They’re horse races…

Six days since my post and the official Kentucky Derby page is still billing Justify as having a race record of 4-4-0-0, winning at Miami Valley three times… including once in March in 2017.

If clockers can be charged with fraud for falsifying the times of official works and therefore affecting pari-mutuel wagering, surely CDI can be charged similarly for misrepresenting the race record of a Kentucky Derby favorite on their official website. Adding an extra start and two year old form changes the story significantly. Even though no serious bettor would handicap off the KD website, you could influence the wagering of the thousands of laypeople who only wager on derby day.

If a bettor sued them for giving out false information, then they would care. Short of that, probably not.

CV, where did you find the replay? I would love to see it. Sounds like MM ran a great race!

The Bloodhorse has the replay with its summary of the Arkansas Derby. https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/race/usa/op/2018/4/14/11/arkansas-derby-g1

Just released NRTA 3-YO poll
• Justify
  • Magnum Moon
  • Audible
  • Good Magic
  • Bolt d'Oro
  • Mendelssohn
  • Vino Rosso
  • Noble Indy
  • Enticed
  • My Boy Jack
:)

Don’t know that I am on board with the complete order but pretty close. I might shuffle a few around. I thought My Boy Jack did respectable on Saturday although a softer field. Was not happy with MM’s late stretch wandering and that might cost him depending on who he’s sharing the stretch run with. Justify… can he get in front and stay in front in a much more crowded Derby field than what he’s used to. Mehdelssohn, liked his run in Dubai but how does Dubai company stack up to what will be in the gate in a few weeks

PPs I think may make a huge difference for some of these cast of characters
