On to the Belmont 2018 - who's bandwagon are you on? post KD and Preakness

Aaaaacccckkkkk…my longshot at 30-1 this morning has been bet down to 3-1. Second choice. Guess a whole bunch of casual bettors believed the hype on one of those “secrets to betting winners” tip sheets floating around that came up on google all week. You know, for those who don’t follow the sport and can’t read the DRF looking for a sure thing to turn a small win or exacta bet into a huge payoff. The ones who don’t know regardless of the odds when you place the bet, you get the odds at post time at Pari Mutual tracks. Odds are determined by handicappers in advance but by money actually bet on the horse on race day.

Little on that one to justify even 10-1 let alone 3-1. Ruins those well thought out exactas pairing a long shot with a favorite. Seen 5 or even 10 point swings, never that big a surge before. Probably go back up some before post time, can’t see many taking him at 3-1 in this field.

Weird. Good thing I didn’t actually bet him in an exacta with a favorite as many obviously did…back up to 5-1 at the moment. Still wish his connections well in the race. Not their fault.

I have to admit that I study pedigrees, past performance record, connections, post position draw, the whole nine yards…and then pick my horses purely on gut feeling. Kind of the same way that I shop for horses when I’m buying, too, come to think of it.

I’ve got good feelings about Audible and Mendelssohn this year. We’ll see if that means anything. Looks like it’s going to be a sloppy track if this weather keeps up.

Well I’m totally uneducated in this year’s field. I do have a Grandson named Jack, so I want to bet online for My Boy Jack. Guess what? Online betting prohibited from MS residents! We have casinos here, so I guess they want their cut. B’turds!

Audible.

But with all the rain and slop, I just hope all the horses survive the trip.

If I HAVE to pick ONE, I’ll go with Bolt D’Oro. There’s a bunch of good horses, and with the track the way it is, and with 20 horsee… (sigh)

… Well, it’s called gambling for a reason.

Jingles for a safe race.

Thinking anything that doesn’t break sharply will get a wall of mud and water in the face and be done. Might benefit those further outside not being in the heaviest traffic the first furlong. Vino Russo looks more attractive at this point and Mendelssohn might benefit. Going to be a mess further inside for those that don’t get in front of it PDQ.

Not going to change either, storms are " training" in a line right over the track and will continue. I’m not that far away…dry as a bone.

Hmmm… Dubai Racing is broadcasting TVG, so no Churchill downs races. Perhaps they’ll replay. I can’t get the BloodHorse website to show replays for some reason.

This has nothing to do with anything but I hate Tara and Johnny being relavent.

They had a very nice piece about the San Luis Rey Downs fires and rebuild a bit ago as a colt who won at Del Mar 10 days later was running in the last race. As it turned out not well, unfortunately, ran near the front but spit it out at the head of stretch.

If you watch the feature back, you’ll need tissue when they talk to the injured outrider who lost his pony horse of ten years.

Really. This…

What despicable thing did JW do to get that gig? So out of place.

@findeight that was so touching and lovely

There’s no replay’s even being posted on Churchill’s site yet either…

My choices. Noble Indy or Vino Rosso.

Has nothing to do with the actual race, but all those people in bare feet walking on the track, having found their high heeled shoes useless in the muck and mud…

I really like Medaglia d’Oro, so I am cheering for Bolt d’Oro.

Of course if Audible wins, we all get a free download of the American Pharoah book from Amazon…

Vino Rosso looks good on his way to the gate. Happy in himself. Mendelssohn was doing a lot of tail-wringing earlier. Of course I’d be happy for Audible to win too!
Most of all I want everyone to finish safe and sound

That’s exactly how I walked back to my car at Keeneland after my first Bluegrass, when it was equally soggy outside. I was very happy I’d parked facing downhill so my car didn’t get stuck in the grass parking field!

Is Bolt D’Oro ok? He seemed to falter, and weave a bit, then fell way back.

Wow. With those early fractions, I didn’t think Justify had a chance of holding on. Very impressive. Proud of my Audible pick, though; he closed for a respectable third (very nearly second) after a not-so-perfect trip.
