My grey mare has been getting regular Oncept vaccines for melanomas since 2016. The vet I’ve been using for the last 9 years has been having issues supplying it for a couple of years and we used our last dose in the fall. I’m trying to find another source but haven’t had any luck. I don’t think other people are having the same issues with supply so was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on how I could go about getting Oncept for her?
I’ve had issues in NorCal, in fact I changed vets for one horse because (among other things) her previous vet didn’t have it and didn’t seem particularly worried about finding it. New vet had a stock then couldn’t get it for a couple of months but has it again.
I’d call around to small animal clinics and see if they’ll sell it to you/your vet. My vet says the manufacturer was prioritizing selling it to small animal vets over large animal because “there was more need.” 🤷
Second the small animal vet, my boarder found a small animal oncologist who would administer it to their horse. They were quoted quite a high price relative to what the equine vets said the cost would be if they could order Oncept, was approaching 2k per shot and the vet advised they are not able to help large animal vets source it, so they have to administer it as well. YMMV, just my recent experience.
My vet here (opposite coast!) was sourcing it from a local VCA hospital. Check in with your small animal specialty centers.
There have been supply issues for a more than a few years now. At some times when I’ve needed it for my horse, it’s easy to get. Other times it’s a struggle. You might try a vet school if you haven’t already. Some large equine practices are able to get it as well.
Good luck!

It works well with some melanomas. Contact Ginger and she can give you case studies and more information. I’m using it for a suspensory tear, but my guy has melanomas too and am curious about trying it for that.
